OK, that one I will buy into!

DITTO.

Look, I love Bill Shatner. I love him to itty bitty pieces. He is Captain Kirk, now and forever. And while the man is capable of subtle, heartbreaking acting (see The Wrath of Khan or... basically any time he interacts with Spock, ever, for proof), dreamrider's quite right. If he were cast as Howard Clinkscales, there would be no scenery left, because Bill would have eaten it all.

As Klaus Hauptman, on the other hand....

rnh,
Did you know that Scott Bakula has a new small screen gig? He is the lead in the NCIS: New Orleans that is premiering soon.

I had heard this, actually. I'm told my screams shattered glass fifty miles away.

I also want to bring Jolene Blalock into the Honorverse so badly I can taste it. She was amazing as T'Pol. Enterprise's problems were legion, but the quality and capability of its actors was not among those problems. Perhaps she'd like to take a gander at Mercedes Brigham?

I think that my main problem with Shatner in more or less any role is that people would go "Hay look, that's Kirk."

Once a person has a role that they are identified with, the detract from any move they are in where they are not either playing that character (or a copy of him,) or are satirizing said character. The only people who get away from this are either great actors or people like Keanu Reeves, who play characters with no personality at all. And Shatner, while much to good to fall into the second category, is in my opinion not quite good enough to be in the first. Even the Priceline Negotiator is basically Captain Kirk without a starship.

As much as I hate to admit it, I tend to agree with you. When given something in his ballpark, Shatner can knock it out of the park - I still weep buckets every time he bolts for Sickbay in TWoK - but anything he can knock out of the park is probably going to be too close to Captain Kirk to get away from that iconic role.

I'd still like to see him take on Hauptman, though...

Maybe I am crazy but I think she'd make a heck of an Honor Harrington. Litte short perhaps, but I think she could pull it off.

Tom Selleck as Clinkscales?
Or better yet, Donald Sutherland!!! :!: :D

Honor was my first thought for Jolene, too - and I still think Enterprise-era Jolene could pull it off magnificently, but Honor's supposed to look like she's in her twenties, and Jolene's almost forty. I don't doubt she could pull it off, acting-wise, but age-wise she's just too old. (Sorry, Jolene!!) Hence, Mercedes Brigham. :D

(Also, pfff. Bruce Boxleitner as Howard Clinkscales.)

Truthfully, while it's great to think about casting science fiction headline names in major roles in the Honorverse, the series would probably be better suited by casting lots and lots of no-name actors and actresses.

My sentiments exactly. It may be true, but it's not fun.

...and I still want Elizabeth Mitchell as Sonja.

She is kinda my first choice for a name actor personally. She's 175cm (only 7 cm short of Honor's 182cm) and she definitely has the command presence. Watch the episode where Castle is caught in a bank robbery and you'll see what I mean. A little cosmetics could get closer to the Honor look if really needed.
