Jumping ahead: W.E.B. Duhavel:
Jame Earl Jones, a bit old but still...
Morgan Freeman
Denzle Washington

Imagine, in the scene at Cathy Montanige's part DuHavel and Oversteegen in their friendly debate: Denzel and Val Kilmer

Kilmer has ballooned into a pretty chucky older guy of late. Oversteegan is described as being more along the build of Michael Janvier, slender but probably without the ex-PM's slouch.

If Alan Rickman is IMHO a perfect High Ridge we'd need a tall skinny guy to play the part.

Tom Hiddleston (is probably too expensive)
Greg Wise (is probably too old)
Jack Ashton (is probably too British)
Tom Mison (...might just be perfect)

Well considering how long it will take for us to get to where High Ridge has any significant screen time let alone Oversteegan maybe we should be looking at Tom Hiddleson for High Ridghe and watching for a young guy to play Oversteegan. Hiddleson would make a pretty good bad guy or an awesome snarky Oversteegan.

Since they don't share scenes (and hardly even books/movies) and are supposed to look a rather alike, using the same actor for both should be doable.

A different hairdo, a few changes in makeup, and a call for an actor who can play different parts convincingly might make for nice bauble to dangle before an actor who don't want to be type-cast (or want to escape from same); one man contracted to play two roles throughout the series would likely be cheaper.

... all of this is provided Oversteegen doesn't get written out, which is quite likely unless the franchise goes Star Wars-level hot. :?

All that is fun, but what you need for any major role is a good actor. Forget body type and look. Is he/she convincing as that character?

Eh. Oversteegen seems like it would be a really fun part. If they got to the point of filming Crown of Slaves or At All Costs, cutting him out would be a shame.

"Shame" is not the word I would have used.

"The greatest tragedy in the history of book-to-film adaptations" would be.

I am sorry, but no matter how much I love the Honorverse, a single character vanishing, unless it was Honor or Elizabeth, would not come anywhere near greatest tragedy status. Not with the 1984 Dune and the 1997 Starship Troopers fighting for that title. And, after seeing the previews, I am worried that we might need to add the upcoming The Giver to that list. And then we have to consider things like casting Jack Black as Gulliver. And the fact the the producers of the Great Gatsby apparently never even read the book. And don't get me started on that chase scene in The Lorax. And really, about seventy per cent of The Cat in the Hat. And...sorry, I was starting to get on a roll.

Anyway, if they did get to point where Oversteegen would be showing up or not in the movies, there would have to of been a series of amazing movies leading up to that point.

I thought I had a potentially good idea for a suggestion on who to play Honor Harrington.

Now that I know just one or two more items about her, I'm thinking... Not so much.

I saw an image of someone I didn't at first recognize, a model by the name of "Kendall Jenner".
OK, I thought, models have made adequate, sometimes even great performers, let's look into her.
FFI, see image at URL: http://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/mtv-vma ... -carpet/6/

THEN, I looked her up in Wikipedia.
Uh Oh. She's a _JENNER_, as in BRUCE JENNER, as in the Kardashian family. No way. That whole family's ego has been so inflated by that "reality" (actually NOT) show, that there is NO WAY that she could work for the entire series as even a half-way adequate actress for the role.

BUT...

It does show that there are some people out there who have the right body type and other appearances to do the job. Getting a young woman with the acting chomps (and physical ability), now THAT is a real challenge.

Oh well, it was an interesting 10 minutes.
