Are there plans to implement a more secure version of the site? Like http(s).
How many unsuccessful login attempts before the site locks you out? Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

In one of the threads Jonathan_s and I have reached an impasse on the need for sails in hyper space.
I took the possibly mistaken position that the text in the technical section of More than Honor could be read to mean that sails contribute to making a transition of the boundary between the upper bands in hyperspace. The actual phrase used was "made it possible to 'crack the wall' between hyper bands with much greater impunity". On the other hand, he claims only the hyper-generator is needed to make the transition and as improvements to it were made (such as the streak drive), then ships could go higher. Further he states that the sails are only used during the transition if a gravity wave is involved. So the phrase above referred to the possibility of a gravity wave on the other side. So sails are only used in three cases: 1) entering a gravity wave 2) traveling in a gravity wave 3) in the entrance of a wormhole to permit a transition. Would you provide some expert guidance on this question? Is it possible that the captain would not always know if there was a gravity wave on the other side of the wall, so used sails out of prudence? |

Honestly, we're not sure. We had to reboot the entire VPS, then repair the MySQL tables. That's never really happened before.

Although I am aware that this is not a social networking site and I do not want to offend you by departing from the subject, I thought perhaps we could create a forum where we could meet other David Weber fans and discuss other topics.

I believe that is the concept behind the "Free Range Topics" forum ******
RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships." |
