So yeah, kind of hard to condemn protests... especially when the "winner" was voted for by less people than the loser.

He has promised to

...create a registry of all members of a specific religion and require them all to register.

Remember that one?

His surrogates have been making the rounds on national news just this week telling people about how the registry is totally acceptable too because "we've done it before like when we had the Japanese internment camps".

Please, tell me more about how people shouldn't be worried and pissed off. Particularly seeing as he just made one of the idols of the white supremacist movement in this country one of the two most influential people in his presidential transition team. Or how this all just sounds like "due process" to you.

Is that any different than my having to submit to fingerprinting at the local PD when I turned 18 as a resident alien? No. All aliens have to register. Being Muslim has nothing to do with it. Keeping track of people immigrating from a troubled location is hardly an attack on civil liberties.

Yes.

VERY.

This is not talking about some generic program that all people have to go through as part of the immigration process. This is talking about singling out specific people based entirely on their religious beliefs.

That is so far from "due process" I don't know where to begin.

And you're just going to ignore that this is in the context of him staffing his transition team with white supremacist cheerleaders I see?

The information is collected already just as mine was. They keep track of people that immigrate from places that correlate strongly to terror activities. That's profiling. Not racial or religious profiling, but just effective profiling.

Once other data points come up to trigger further investigation, they can investigate further. That sounds very much like due process and good police work. I wish they would have done something similar to the Tsarnaev brothers. Connecting the dots would have help loads in that case.

No one entering the country as an immigrant citizen, if allowed in, should be finger printed. Either they are now a citizen of the USA or they are not. If they have a VISA/greencard etc, sure, then fingerprint them etc, is allowable. Otherwise: no. Why? They are not citizens of the USA and therefore do not have our rights. You want our rights and protections? Become a citizen.

If you are so worried, don't let them in to begin with.

Settling refugees all in the same area is problematical as it allows them not to assimilate as quickly. I would force them to attend language classes for starters. Same reason Puerto Rica is not the 51st state. Language barrier. A country already has enough internal problems. Don't need to add language communication problems on top of our numerous other problems.

EDIT: PS, if Puerto Rico passed a law that their children would be taught in English, not Spanish in school, I'll bet they would have already become the 51st state. Personally I say give them the option, stay spanish speaking and an independent nation, or speak english and become the 51st state. Enough of this Protectorate status. Roll the Virgin Islands into Puerto Rico should they become a state. Likewise Mariannas islands and Samoa, roll them into the state of Hawaii and call it done.

Considering that I generally lean to the left, this may surprise some. I support fingerprinting and sealed DNA records for all, but particularly non citizen visitors. No need to discriminate, just do them all.
Nowadays fingerprints can be taken electronically in a moment without mess, add them to the face recognition data most passports already have, take a saliva sample for DNA (but don't process it without due cause), and all will be more secure.
Several years ago, my wife, me, my daughter and her husband were in London at a time that Obama was visiting the English Queen in Buckingham Palace. Being dumb tourists we hopped off a double decker bus and wandered up to the gates. Hundreds of people there and nearly as many police. Both my son in law and I are big strong, bearded men and we were wearing knapsacks. We chatted casually to the bobbies but weren't quizzed or searched once. Later on I read that they had telephoto lensed digital cameras and snipers on adjoining rooftops. Face recognition technology matched to passport records told them we were harmless. Works for me, more freedom in exchange for a little personal info.

It should be mentioned that Newtown is extreemly far left politically.
But a hell of a fun place to visit. :)

Did you know that a voter in Wyoming has 3 times the value of one from California?
Quite a few states more yhan Wyoming for that matter.
Hardly fair.

No disagreement from me. Another reason to close the border . Come in legally and be documented, fingerprinted, DNA'd and photographed. If you won't subject yourself to these safeguards, we don't want you here.

And then it came to pass that a presidential candidate was so upset by public reaction to his and his running mate's campaign that he asked why theaters aren't safe spaces.

By the way, those "rude" remarks?

Vice-president elect Pence, we welcome you and we truly thank you for joining us at Hamilton: An American Musical. We really do.

We, sir, are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents — or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir.

But we truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us. All of us.

We truly thank you for sharing this show — this wonderful American story told by a diverse group of men, women of different colors, creeds, and orientations.

You have to be a pretty special kind of snowflake to call those rude.

Oh, and incidentally, he also settled a lawsuit for 25 million USD, and does his best to test the limits of the emolument clause.

So yeah. Ladies, Gentlemen and associated Entities, I present to you the guy who's going to drain the swamp and make political correctness go away: Donald Trump.

Emolument shouldn't come into play until Jan 20th, which is when Trump can actually appoint cabinate positions.
Until then it's just hypothetical.
