You are confusing retail stores with manufacturing. Apple will still be selling IPHONES IPADS in China for decades, but the actual manufacturing will be repatriated to the US.

I think Andropov also cling to the hopes that something would happens that would make Soviet economy great again. It's just ironic, how lessons learned wrong - like trying to assume reality as what you wish it is, instead of what it actually is - repeat themselves...

BRRR! It's COLD in here!

15Then the LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.

16And the LORD God commanded him, “You may eat freely from every tree of the garden,

17but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.”

I say BRRR! It's COLD in here!
There must be some sinners in the atmosphere!

God introduced man to Adam.
The serpent introduced man to Atom.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Time for a roundup of stupid!

First up: The Trump admin tries to invest in a german biotech company working on a COVID-19 vaccine .... which would be good, but the Trump admin being what it is, they tried to secure exclusive rights to the vaccine for the US, so the offer was firmly rejected by the company's ownership.

Second: The british strategy to build herd immunity by not doing anything is collapsing fast; while private entities were cancelling events on their own, Bojo and the rest of his cabinet of imbeciles have finally woken up and started to introduce comprehensive lockdown measures.
Two days after proclaiming that everything was fine, naturally.

Third: South Korea's comprehensive testing and tracking is paying dividends. Through it, they were able to build a comprehensive case against the supposedly christian sect Shincheonji, which is an apocalypse cult with a strong emphasis on religious practices designed to spread infectious diseases.

Fourth: A Fox News host, intent on following the Trumpian party line, proclaims that fears about COVID-19 are largely unfounded and the result of a massive effort by the mass media to creaty panic and hysteria.
Said person is no longer a Fox News host; Fox News, presumably, having realized that their target demographic is largely comprised of people in the biggest risk groups.

Fifth: Google rolls out the most tech-bullshit corona testing support site imaginable: https://twitter.com/daiwaka/status/1239384795945164800

Sixth: US churches are having difficulties balancing their desire to protect their communities and their communities' desire to be idiots: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics ... story.html

...Idiot. The last thing Trump currently could allow himself to do is trying to make a profit on crisis. And he done exactly that. Idiot...

I'm not going to worry too much until I hear "30" and "Carousel" mentioned in the same sentence.

Once upon a time [many years back] the Telegraph was a serious conservative paper - my parents used to get it - and I read it most days.

How are the mighty fallen?

It has since become something suitable for when the toilet rolls run out - except it would probably poison you or rot your a***

It is now ridden by anti-European hatred, and is about as serious as the national enquirer [I think that's the US joke paper?].

At age 74 I obviously have a stake in this, but I understand the hard place Italy finds itself in. So I won't criticize.

I would point out that the actual statistics indicate that the US has handled the Coronavirus much more effectively than just about any of the Northern latitude countries with socialized health care. When you calculate the infection RATE per capital, America has about one-third of the infection rate.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

that has aged well, Fly!

More seriously, I'm starting to get that feeling that this is going to be a very significant 'event' indeed to the world - with no parts being unaffected - even when a vaccine is found.

All the little businesses going down together [shops, restaurants, bars, theatres], all the big businesses in danger [airlines for example]. How will they come back - it certainly will be very different.

[Edit] I partially heard a 'nice' illustration.

The world economy is rather like a huge ball of thousands of little sticks all held in place by lots of highly stretched elastic bands and springs. In 'normal' times we add in a stick here or there, add another band here, tighten a band there. The whole mass moves and sways a bit, but is sort of stable.

Then something comes along and cuts many bands all at once and the construction just pings apart, more bands unwind, sticks break.

When the movement stops you can rebuild something but it will not be what was there before.
