The costal countries of Europe have had the misfortune of being the target of Muslim pirates as far back as the 16th Century.
Though it must be said that their attacks at that time, were more in the nature of raids for loot and slaves, with the resulting mayhem a secondary side effect.
Their more radical descendents have ennobled the tradition, by eliminating the gold and slaves incentives, and concentrating on the mayhem!

Nearly all of the 2% of our population who are Moslems are good decent citizens, and cause no problems.
Unfortunately we do have a lunatic fringe. It appears that about 150 of our home grown young Moslem men may have joined the fanatics. The current nastiest idiot has been locked up here already, but we had to release him.

The same thing has happened elsewhere as in the British atrocity of beheading an off duty soldier, US rogue soldiers shooting comrades, and others.

For the record I loathe all fanatical terrorists regardless of whatever religious fanaticism they wrap around their psychopathic barbarities. The nastier branches of the IRA, KKK, Hindu mobs, Chechen and Ukrainian separatists, and ISIS are all s**theads as far as I'm concerned.
Much as I generally am not in favour of US international military intervention, I wonder if ISIS has done us a favour by assembling so many fruit loops in one spot, so a few daisy cutters or fuel/air bombs might do some good.

Here in Denmark we are now at around 10%, and like you say most just want to be good residents or citizens and get on with their lives.
But we also have a hard core of radicals, but even here there's a light point. Of the 50 or so who went of to fight for the cause in Syria and Iraq 15-17 up to now have decided to stay! Permenatly! :twisted:

WEll, with all the refugees fleeing the area, it will soon be turned into something resembling a "free fire zone"!

There's a whole lot of middle-eastern folk in the Detroit/Dearborn area, where I grew up. You can't walk into a party store or gas station without seeing one owned by them. They own just about all of them. Literally.
And know just enough English to get by. Once someone has had the store for a few years until their immigrant tax break status ends, they transfer it to a cousin just off the boat. By that time they have a degree and enough English skills to get a professional job.

On the other hand, I've never known of any radicalism being found there. Sure, the FBI has a field office there which keeps an eye on things, I suppose they keep an eye out for extremism too, the Dearborn area being the densest middle-eastern population in the US.

In Dearborn and Hamtramck, you can hear the "call to prayer" every day over loudspeakers. Huh.

Most of 'em seem OK, but a lot of them have an arrogant attitude towards non-muslim people - infidels. Not always friendly.

But their restaurants are fantastic! I could eat Lebanese food every day for the rest of my life and not get tired of it.

It's been several years since I was in the Detroit area. I don't know if things have changes. Likely not.

Yeah, I know. I've been keeping a little bit of an eye (not too much) on the crap w/ ISIL or ISIS or whatever it's being called. If you ask me, they are a bunch of wannabee gangster scumbags, need to be wiped away like ... well, I can't say on this forum.

Okay, how may did we (just the US, no other coalition forces) lose in Iraq? The 2003 war, 4487. The gulf war, 292. Total, 4779. (Hell, we lost over 12,000 in the battle of Okinawa in WWII alone!) The Iraqis? Both wars, 25,000 to maybe 40,000, total. Clearly, they "ain't shit" as my brother would say, as far as a fighting force.

This situation frustrates me. Nansy-Pansy politicians worried about public opinion, perhaps, or towing the party line, they won't or don't seem to be worried, from what I can tell. America is THE superpower, and so what? Why play around? We could fix this nonsense easily if someone in office had any backbone, integrity and actually loved this country.

As far as Shari'ah law in this country - If any politician looks like caving in to religious extremism - I hope his constituents take him to task - quickly and seriously. If Americans are too dumb to realize what THAT would be like, then the truth is not being told to them, and/or they are letting themselves be (or are being) distracted by peripheral things.

Media bias also sickens me. Consider that they want to tell Americans what to think - to what political end game? Ruin, AFAIAC. Also, all too often, prime-time TV sitcoms (yuk) and sometimes Cinema portray traditional American values and Christianity in a bad light. Is there an effort to destroy the family, I sometimes wonder?
