The Neffy Award (National Fantasy Fan Federation Speculative Fiction Award) is made by the National Fantasy Fan Federation (founded 1941), the world's oldest non-regional SF club. It was first given in 1949 to Ray Bradbury. Since then it has occasionally been given (including continuously since 2005) for outstanding contributions to the Science Fiction field.

This year we made two awards.

The 2015 Neffy Award, a
Heroic Commendation,
Was Won by
All of Hugo Fandom
for reviving the most ancient and honorable of all fannish customs, the all-hobby fan feud.

The ballot resolution read: To all of Hugo Fandom, for they are all fen: A Heroic Commendation for reviving the most ancient and honorable of all fannish customs, the all-hobby fan feud.

The 2015 Neffy Award for
Best Editor
was won by
Toni Weisskopf, Baen Books.

The ballot resolution read: Mindful that editors are judged on their extended record, not a single work in a single year, and that other editors may in future years be honored for their work in the same time period, the nomination for 2015 for Best Editor is to Toni Weisskopf, Baen Books.

Okay, I'm curious now.
Just what was the feud about?
Has to be big if it got an award...

Oh yeah. congrats, Toni.
You deserve the award.
Hope you and RFC keep up your great working relationship.

The feud was amazing.

File770.com has a long list of threads on the topic.

The overarching idea: We are all fen, and should try to be polite to our fellow fen, seems to need reinforcement.

Toni received as many Hugo votes for Editor, long form, as the past five Hugo editor nominees, but the Hugo outcome was "No award".

As I understand it one pecularity about the Hugo voting is that people can vote 'No Award'. And they also can put 'No Award' first (or on any other place) on their list and then put a person on the next place and so on.

So it is actually possible to have 'No Award' come out first when all votes are counted and have the best-ranked human contender on place two.

Apparently that's what happened to Toni.

Of all contenders she got the most Hugo votes in Editor - Long Form. But due to the Puppy-Wars so many people voted 'No Award' (not because of a dislike of Toni but because of a dislike of the Puppy-slates) that No Award came out first. Or to put it another way: She had the bad luck to have been placed on a Puppy-slate by someone.

That's a shame really. She would have deserved the win.

I mean: I suppose it makes some sense to have a 'No Award' if there really isn't someone who deserves the win in one year. But that's not what happened here: The 'No Award' - voting was a statement that had nothing to do with Toni really.

Great that you gave her a price, Phillies!
