Congratulations to all on Victory Day! 70 years ago the Nazi Germany were ultimately defeated after a long and hard war for the sake of all humankind. Let's put all politic aside and give praise to all who make this victory for us.
------------------------------

Oh well, if shortening the front is what the Germans crave,
Let's shorten it to very end - the length of Fuhrer's grave.

(Red Army lyrics from 1945)

Your people made an enormous sacrifice, Dilandu. And it is very proper that it gets remembered. All politics aside I am glad you guys won.

What many people forget is which country was invaded by the Nazis first.

Germany.

Let us never forget.

That is nice of you to say - and I wish it was true.

As far as I have heard the reality was that a lot of Germans where quite happy with the Nazi takeover. Not all of course. And after Hitlers initial war 'successes' many were downright enthusiastic.

I find it real scary that so many people got behind such a perverse ideology so quickly.

Hitler started with the promise of making Germany prosperous again. As far as the average person was concerned, that promise was kept, people had money and jobs. It isn't hard to see why the populace kept following him.

All that was ans is required is to disenfranchise a few minorities, nationalize their assets, round them up and work them to death. Also, cut back on some social services, (the committee for ethical euthanasia worked on a way to empty out the insane asylems and became the SS).

Let us be thankful that things in Germany in the 1930s had not been slightly different. What if Hilter had embraced the Jewish people instead of what he actually did?

If THAT had happend and if Hiltler had not made just a couple of big critical strategic mistakes, we would all be speaking German today? Yep. HB of CJ (old coot) Jr. Capt.

If Hitler had embraced us, (if he'd been able to,)
Then we would have set his morality straight.
(It would not have been so crooked in the first place.)
And, In that case, German would be the best language!

The following is from Taylor Anderson's blogs

If your interested in the underpinnings of Fascism (especially the original Italian version) check out the Italian author Gabriele D’Annunzio, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabriele_D%27Annunzio, regarded as the Godfather of Italian fascism. Fascism got it’s start in the trenches along the Isonzo River in the Great War. The Italian veterans were trying to create a political movement from the “Trencharchy” Something similar happened in Germany with the Freikorp movement. There was a civil war in Bavaria (Bayern) in 1919 between the Reds and the Whites and the Whites won. A similar civil war took place in Finland in 1919 where the whites won. A lot of people from the end of the Great War through the 1930’s saw liberal democracy as a failure, with the only choices being either fascism in its various versions and communism. During the Spanish Civil War one side was authoritarian fascist and the other totalitarian Communists. There was no liberal democracy side in that war. Italian Fascism was significantly different from German National Socialism. There was no antisemitism in Italian Fascism as several of it’s founders were Jewish. Mussolini’s favorite mistress was Jewish and he had several children by her. Mussolini was originally a far left socialist and flipped to the far right as a result of his experiences in the Great War along the Isonzo front where he nearly died twice. Hitler has similar experiences on the western front. As did millions of other people during the Great War. The NSDAP lifted the term “Sturm Abteilung” (SA, “storm troopers”) from the Stoss Truppen of the war, deliberately invoking the cachet of those elite units.

I found it a rather interesting look a Fascism

I'm not so sure about that. many Americans, including Henry Ford and Lindberg were advocates of Hitler and severely conflicted when Germany declared war after Pearl Harbor -- they were all in favor of crushing the "Yellow Peril" in the Pacific, but thought we were on the wrong side in Europe.
