It is going to be a cold night tonight in Calgary.

iMAP weather has us forecasted for -51F with a wind chill of -69F.

Think I might just stay in tonight.

I am a Los Angeles boy and the coldest I have experienced is a very mild minus 5 F. and even then I was sure I was going to freeze solid. Did have only one last remaining way to stay warm and fortunately that last gasp did not fail me. How cold does it get on Gryphon any how? Could CO2 freeze out and fall as snow? Now that would be cold. HB of CJ (old coot)

I remember visiting Los Angeles over a Christmas holiday, and being pleasantly surprised at how warm it was (daytime highs of @ 12 C on some days, a spring of fall day for most Canadians).

Of course the Los Angelinos were bundled up in down parkas and complaining about how cold it was (which we thought was really funny). One thing that our American friends don't seem to realize is that you have to dress in layers in order to stay warm, often we would get inside and take off the windbreaker and light sweater only to see the Americans shed the down parka and only have a shirt or dress underneath; no other layers between them and the outside world.

If you want a real treat for variable climates, try Saskatchewan or deep in the US great plains; it is a continental climate with no bodies of water to moderate the temperature swings. Bring lots of layers....

Psh. Don't paint all Americans with the same brush. You're going to one of the warmest places in the US, of course they don't know how to dress properly. If you go to somewhere like Chicago, it's a completely different story.

A resort not too far from here has one of those crazy European cold Spa's. The take you in, in your skiveys, to a room that is -110C that is -166F. They take you through a series of rooms progressively colder. Supposed to be good for you. I think I'll just stick to the -45C outside. That is cold enough for me. But makes you think Gryphon could be really cold.

LA is not one of the warmest places in the US; most of the south and southwest (and Hawaii) gets significantly warmer in summer than LA does. Of course, the eastern suburbs are another matter entirely.
