There are American movies that are considered classics but you don't really appreciate them because butally edited versions have been shown on broadcast TV and cable for half a century. I got into the Holloween spirit by programing the DVR to record PSYCHO that was being shown on TCM.
This is the first time that I have been able to watch PSYCHO from beginning to end rather than channel surfing to it just after the iconic shower scene. Even more interesting is the opening scene in the Notell Hotel room. Given the context of content restrictions that were prevalent during that era, that scene was extraordinary. Of course both scenes need to be viewed in context of the full movie to be truly appreciated. Even more fascinating was learning that they used a body double for Janet Leigh for the shower scene then googling images of her.
