Sorry, my vote is for David Tennant.

Crusade was "so-so" because all the suits decided they knew better than J.M. Straczynski how to tell the story. Back when he was a relative unknown, he wasn't on anybody's radar; after Babylon 5 everybody wanted in on the act.

"Tripping The Rift" was always preceded by a warning that it was intended for "mature audiences". I had to say, "Bullshit, it's intended for profoundly IMmature audiences - now get on with the show!" It was almost like Benny Hill in space.

Few of you would be old enough to remember the Gerry/Sylvia Anderson marionette series: Stingray, Thunderbirds, Supercar, Fireball XL-5 and Captain Scarlet. I assure you, to a kid they were glorious.

Did anybody notice that Deep Space Nine started the multi-episode continuing storylines after the second season of Babylon 5? Kind of like they all looked at each other and said, "Hey, this Straczynski guy might be on to something."

And as far as stardrives, I've always been partial to the Bergenholm...

Hey! age got nothing to do with knowing those. They did reruns of them here when I was young a lot, so those (plus joe 90) are all familiar names to me.

EE "doc" Smith was a really good author and i highly recommend the Lensmen series. Although they are very tongue in cheek , they are still a very good series.

When I was a lot younger, I liked the Last Legionary series by Douglas Hill (6 April 1935 – 21 June 2007). I recently tracked down the 5 books and re-read them... yeah, definitely kid/teen sci-fi but still fun (and possibly filmable...).

There were a lot of sci-fi books I read as a kid and still (partially) remember. When I was 10, I read an unusual book that actually introduced me to the concept of transhumanism, "Guardian of Isis" by Monica Hughes (which was republished in 2000, but yet to be in e-book form).

The one book that almost put me off sci-fi was "Battlefield Earth" by Ron Hubbard.

Douglas Hill did the Alien Invasion/After The End concept way better with his Warriors Of The Wasteland series (The Huntsman, Creatures of the Claw, Alien Citadel).
His books also re-kindled my interest in sci-fi. Thanks, Douglas!
