I most strongly prefer the English type very strong, dark stouts. Room temperature. Sometimes sold here in the USA as a barley wine due to the alcohol content. "This here beer is way too cold"! HB of CJ (old coot) I most certainly DO NOT like the American type beers... they tastes like... like... well, you know what! :)

Porter for me, or dark ales, though not stouts. And they have to be cold.

Favourite is freebies (paid for by others).
Actually I like a wide range of beers. Kilkenny (red Irish beer), Stella Artois (Belgian), Rigwelter (Yorkshire 8.9%), most German beers, English ales like Speckeled Hen, but my favourite is my own brew (crafted in my shed & restricted to friends & relatives - a contradictory full bodied lager).

Weiss.
Specifically, German 1/2 liter Wheat Beers, in the brown bottles... and COLD.

I'll go ahead and say the obvious (alluded to above) _MOST_ of the US Big Breweries are only distributors of Horse Piss.

Notice I said MOST. There are plenty of exceptions. In my region, Summit Brewery used to be a small microbrewery. They may or may not still hold that technical category. In practice however, they are what I'd call a Mid-sized Brewery.

The only BAD beer that Summit produces is IPA, but that's because I think that ALL India Pale Ales are garbage, not because Summit is doing a bad job.

I wish I could remember the brands of German Weiss beers that I've tried and liked, but the only one that immediately comes to mind is Franziskaner.

(BTW, I didn't get the news flash when Spaten & Franziskaner merged. As a result, for a number of years, when I couldn't find my Spaten Weiss Beer, I just did without. My attitude was, if I can't get a good beer, I'll just do without. I'm not that picky anymore!)

p.s.: I second the (above) nomination for Stella Artois; also a very good beer.

Schmitts of Philadelphia!

Not only was it made in Philadelphia,
but it beat Coors in a taste test.

If I am in the mood to spend a little more on beer, I usually get Newcastle or Guinness. Though I drink it cold. Never understood how the English could prefer warm beer. If I am pinching pennies, I normally drink Yuengling.

Harvest Pale (Castle Rock) is a very nice beer

Doombar (Sharps)is also nice

But one of my favourites has to be Hobgoblin from Wychwood (or king goblin for that extra kick)

There are some nice american beers, but there are many unpleasant liquids I'd rather drink than American light beer

Ale, Big Rock Grasshopper, although because I've become gluten intolerant I don't drink beer anymore. I should qualify that by noting I haven't had any beer in the last 15 years. Except root beer.

So Root beer.
