I woke up this morning getting ready for work, work at home on the net. Tired not feeling to well so I picked up my tablet, sits next to my bed, I use it as I am now for surfing this site.
This morning while laying in bed I decided to start work in bed. Checked out the pre market, then waited for the opening and had a good look around. It is so wicked when you can work from bed. Tablet is so much more useful than a notebook. Yes my work computer has all 8 monitors and I use it a lot but nothing beats laying in bed checking the market and deciding it is a down day, no need to jump up and go boot up the workstation. That is another reason a tablet is great. Freeing.  ________________________________________

I've got a quad core 4tb PC, a laptop, e reader, and a tablet. Each has its uses, advantages and disadvantages.
Tablet is great for traveling, Skype, using in bed or social gatherings, quick internet checks, and reasonable as an e reader (bit big and clunky compared to a dedicated e reader). Obviously useless for heavy duty computing like downloading and storing movies, or CAD, or authoring large documents/spreadsheets etc. No mass storage, large screen, top line processor, or full size keyboard. I did buy a Bluetooth keyboard and leather case for mine the other day, and that works very well. Cost $20 at Aldi while the factory one is over $100. Makes the tablet into a small low spec laptop, when you need one. |

My tablet is a budget model (the Tesco Hudl)
But it does what I want, mostly e-reader, music and web browsing, but will also play movies without a problem and lets me play solitaire I also have Laptop and Desktop machines. I use the laptop for travelling, and with an after-market blu-ray fitted, it works well as an AV machine at social events. The desktop is my serious machine for writing documents and playing games. Of course the fact I can use all these machines is known to my family so I am also free tech support for them and everyone they know ~~~~~~

I purchased a tablet with windows 8. Just for the intel cpu. I wiped windows and installed Ubuntu 14.04. A few hiccups, but a few lines of code and voila.
You just cannot understand the priceless convenience of being able to code on a tablet, anywhere I happen to be and inspiration strikes. Invaluable. My efficiency just doubled. And I'm running the exact same software on the exact same desktop OS as is my main system. Incredible. Simply incredible. I love it so much, I'm afraid the 'happy-police' are going to come knock at my door and confiscate it! We, each of us, long ago entered into the information age. Tablets placed that information at our finger's tips. Where it belongs! Oh come on, don't you all remember the first time you saw a datapad on Star Trek? We all wanted one. I've got one. Linux on a tablet! Now you're playing with power!! Super power!!! Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. I have one as well, but I mainly use it as my secondary plus-portable unit. I use a laptop as my desktop... (yeah, I know, but there are certain space constraints involved...) I find that a significant downside of tablets is the lack of tactile feedback. You don't really realise just how much you depend on it until you no longer have it and must therefore totally retrain your reflexes to cope. The Hudl also doesn't seem to allow the use of a stylus, something which is rather irritating. Anyone know if the iPads are stylus-compatible? Meh, it works. That's the main thing. ~~~~~~

My new Phablet has become, due to phone instability, my new tablet. 6.44" screen is big enough and small enough. Not pocketable, which is a bit of a problem but so much better than hauling my 10" tablet around.
Even has emergency call capabilities...911! I use it as a radio, tablet, email, surfing when I'm out, GPS, pocket video, camera 13 mega pixel, plus 1080p video camera. Its a Sony Xperia Z Ultra. While annoying it does solve one problem, it is not pocketable, thus I need to find a new phone text option. But I now have an excellent new small tablet. Almost pocketable as long as you don't sit down. I bought a shoulder pouch. Phablet a great idea but has problems. I might have picked up an iPad mini instead. ________________________________________
