Anyone noticed the guy watching cat-pictures at the bottom left?

Now I just HAVE to go back over the covers of all the Honorverse books I have to see what other little tongue in cheek nuggets can be found. ****
Just my opinion of course and probably not worth the paper it's not written on. |

I never noticed it. Too busy staring at the babe. But now that you distracted me from my distraction, perhaps in the Honorverse they've improved on Microsoft's Blue Screen of Death and you get cute little 'Sorry, cat got your tongue,' videos. That's what it appears like to me. When I was young and full of... bubble gum, working in Silicon(e) Valley in the good ol' days, many satellite offices were tied together with the Arpanet. The Arpanet received a technology boost and incentive in the early 80's and during that reconstruction period it often went down. Some engineers of some companies managed to substitute a looped video feed of playful images "Oops, we seem to have lost your feed." Because if not, you wouldn't see a damn thing and couldn't tell if your terminals were on or not. And terminals were really dumb back then, many not even offering a 'Power On' light, so you didn't know if the damn thing was actually on or not. At any rate, many people don't realize that Microsoft's BSOD was actually an improvement. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

IIRC the artist who did the original covers for the Honorverse series has hidden a picture of his cat in all of them, and possibly other stuff that he has done |

Be that as it may, it could certainly pass for the CSOD 'Cat Screen of Death' to me. Which was actually one of the images shown in the infant ages of the Arpanet. It was borrowed Looney Tunes images if you asked me. It was supposed to signify a cat playing with string, and the string was the many miles of LAN cable between offices. The cat also appears in the Mattingly's original cover art for _Ashes of Victory_ as a subtle pattern in the star field. However, the "V" in the title obscures it (and it might not be reproduced very well either). Much of the Mattingly's Honoverse cover art shows up in the various Honorverse CDs. ----------------------------
