I was thinking. (A dangerous thing, I know) Have you ever seen those theme commemorative chess sets for Star Trek or Star Wars. You know the ones that are set up like this;
King = Kirk Queen = Rand Bishop = Spock/McCoy Knight = Scott/Sulu Well how about one for the Honorverse? You could have multiple sets. Manticore Alliance White K Benjamin IX Q Elizabeth III B Prestwick/Summervale Kn Caperelli/Matthews Black PRH K RSP Q McQueen B St. Just/Ransom Kn Thiesman/Giscard How about a pure Grayson one? K Benjamin IX Q HH B Rev. Hanks/Sullivan Kn Matthews/Yanakov Let's speculate on a few more possibilities. |

In keeping with the nautical theme, I'd prefer a set with ship models.
K - fortress Q - SD B - BC Kn - CA R - CLAC Pawn - LAC Of course, the RMN's ponies have to be the Star Knight. |

We discussed this before. I assure you, pawns should be nothing less than human forms. I suggest Marines in battle armor. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6829&hilit=chess&start=110 Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

My SKM proposal:
King: Elizabeth III (with Ariel) Queen: Honor Harrington (with Nimitz) Bishops: Hemphill and Givens Knights: Henke and Truman Rooks: Hamish Alexander and Kuzak (or D'Orville) Pawns: Marines or Spacers in skinsuits I tried to balance ranks, roles and storyline prominence to create this list. One potential change might be replacing the Bishops with Sarnow/McKeon to try and balance the genders of the pieces a little. Would anyone like to give Torch a try? King = HRM Berry Queen = Palane? Rooks = Jeremy X and W.E.B. Du Havel? Or possibly Zilwicki & Cachat!?!? Bishops = ???? Knights = ???? Pawns = Torch marines sticking their tongues out |

And what do you propose for the castles? I don't think we know what a junction fort looks like, so I suppose anything sufficiently 'spaceworthy but static' would do.

You are erring in the other extreme. Just as pawns, bishops, Kings and Queens should be people -- *and the lowly pawns readily identifiable/distinguishable at a glance from the (taller, better adorned) Kings, Queens and Bishops during gameplay, you must also make the Rooks and Knights other than people or human forms (although there's no reason a rider cannot sit atop a horse. *And able to be done so even in your "peripheral" vision. Which is why Staunton type, easily distinguishable, pieces are preferred in tournament play. You don't want to lose a game because, while concentrating on your logic and scanning searches in your head, you inadvertently mistake a pawn for a bishop or vice versa. "Oops," says Shannon. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. The MAlign set might be a bit problematic if Albrecht and the boys are the major pieces.
