In FoD, Baron High Ridge refused to give up the name(s) of those who leaked classified/top secret information to him.
I'm wondering WHY they didn't just summon MPs/Shore Patrol/security to arrest him and toss him in a cell to be charged with spying etc? |

Because they didn't want to provoke an outright legislative war when they were trying to get a war declaration voted out.

If you're going to be like this, take it to Politics. -------------------------

So he insinuates that he and others will deny a declaration of war on order to prevent or subvert legal proceedings against someone who hasn't even been officially charged yet.
It's a shame that people can get away with what amounts to open treason against their own country/kingdom like that. That should get him and any others involved lynched! |

Not that I think you'll find anyone who disagrees with your opinion about the Opposition parties, but treason has a very specific legal meaning. They are not rendering aid to a enemy nation, nor involved in any activities to subvert the legitimate government of Manticore. Refusing to declare war doesn't qualify as treason - the whole point of having a vote to begin with is to see if there is support for hostilities.

Duckk, forgive me, but that does need answering. The simple fact is that WE as citizens are responsible for her remaining free, since WE refuse to take action against an obviously corrupt government. |

A free society needs to be really, really careful about throwing opposition leaders in jail. Anything short of murder, treason (as defined below), or blatant corruption provable in triplicate is probably not worth the risk of imprisonment becoming a common political tool.

Politics is the one area where crime does pay, after the election. Kickbacks. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |
