Harrington - Four score or more "Trying" years from now

It's happened guys. Honor Harrington, The Salamander, Protector of Grayson, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., and et cetera on the etc., has finally retired.

Grayson, Queen Elizabeth and her Navy and the galaxy at large wants to present a retired Salamander with her own private ship. What ship would Honor want to retire with using present or over the horizon tech? Fully loaded! Honor's own loudout! What ship in what configuration would Honor Harrington presently choose? Having put so many pirates behind bars or out of business or worse, Harrington would have to be allowed to retire with a naval ship, simply as protection. Will Harrington become the first "conceal & carry" naval ship permit? LOL

What do you think Honor Harrington ordered with a few "Q" of James Bond fame tweaks? Such as the ability to transfer control links. Whereas Honor's private ship can take over missiles sent to her on a ballistic profile. Rearm in space by mail. LOL

What could be listed in Honor Harrington's profile after her retirement? She would retire with rank in at least two navies by then? (wink)

Will Honor, in her more advanced age, lend her expertise to new polities as a cross dresser between a Robin Hood and a true Preston of the Spaceways fighting for Justice and the Harrington way - having been out of the navy for years? Will she take up arms for Torch, should she so find herself on planet or about the system in orbit when all hell breaks loose?

Could fate lend itself to the final chapter of the Salamander's life and she finds herself, somehow, Protector of Grayson? How would the pledge to take care of that family on Grayson (I forget the particulars) that Honor made go down?

Everybody that has served aboard ship at one time or another with Honor would be on ship with her now. All retired. McGuiness still cooking. A gray old Foraker really looks the part of witch now - at home on tactical.

A geriatric Honor and crew. Are you man enough to tell her on the comms facing off against her that she's geriatric?

An old Theisman sails with her, galaxy-wide peace still eludes him.

Funny-bone tuning fork:
In the advanced future, a galaxy wide law has been passed stating that all of Honor Harrington's personal ships have to have a vanity plate squawking the registry "GRAY OLE' SALLY" easily picked up by all other ships. Seems many a pirate has been destroyed firing on a private ship not knowing it was an old Salamander, far more advanced in tactical years, short in tooth and whose genius even now still barely scratches the surface.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

i suspect the boring answer is that, by the time Honor retires she'll be thoroughly tired of combat and will be looking forward to spending some nice quiet time with her spouses, siblings, kids (and grandkids?). She'll probably be quite content with a boring yacht like her Paul Tankersley to shuttle back and forth between her homes; or taking the family out for a run in one of her sailboats or her (unarmed) runabout...

Except that by the time Honor is ready to retire - or by the time her two star nations are ready to allow her to retire, prolong says that her kids will either be in the navy making a name for themselves or married with kids of their own.

When Honor retires, you don't think that she'd be asking for it, traveling in an unarmed yacht? Having made so many enemies?

Honor owes it to herself to always be packing, especially after retirement. It is the curse of some ex-military, law enforcement, and certain other government positions.

I assume that Honor will always be a keymaster on Grayson and cursed to always have bodyguards even in her advanced years.

I can see Protectors Own "babysitting" the aging Salamander.

She'd obviously have her Armsmen with her in the yacht. But given the near impossibility of interception in hyper and the strong system defenses at Manticore-A, -B, and Yeltin I don't see that she's necessarily need an armed transport, or naval escort, to go between Manticore, Sphynx, Gryphon, and Grayson.

Going to less settled places might require an armed escort. But I don't see her needing a Duke of Chromarty style heavily defended royal yacht.

If you think you need a BC as a yacht to go somewhere, you either shouldn't go there or should only go there with a fleet.

Keep in mind that Anton Zilwicki essentially uses one of the ASL's frigates as his personal transport. And Honor is a much more well know and has even more enemies than he does. So by this standard, the retired Salamander should have something bigger than a frigate. How much bigger? I think a SD(P) would be overkill. Maybe something in the BC or CA range. One thing is for certain, whatever ship she wants she will be able to afford. Keep in mind how rich she is now and that her wealth continues to grow. Also, I am sure that her good friend Stacy Hauptman will give her an *excellent* deal on whatever ship she wants to purchase. ;)

She doesn't seem the retiring type. She did seem to like teaching at Saganami Island. Once the wars are over and she is no longer needed as a combat commander, I could maybe see her stepping away from fleet command and doing another stint there.

Could the validity of that (emboldened) statement be challenged with the formal introduction of the Lenny Dets?

Besides, I can't see that the galaxy, let alone Murphy, will allow for the travels of the Salamander to restrict her to the relative safety of the Haven sector.

She's retired, and her business may take off on other planets. Sky Domes has a market all over the galaxy - even the Verge.

This axiom has always rang true in storyline...
Wherever something in the galaxy is popping off, Harrington will be there.

You didn't really think it'd change when she retires?
