I have been wondering for awhile now but, didn't want to bring it up due to the s*%t storm it's likely to stir up So, here goes..... should the RMN be changed to IMN now that the kingdom is an empire? Now, before someone calls me a stickler of the rules, I don't care one way or the other. I just want to see how others feel. That said....let the battle begin!!!

Unless it's one of the newest books that I haven't read yet, I can only think it'd have been a forum discussion.
And has anyone consulted the Andermani on their thoughts of the delusions of grandeur Manticore is having, to start being the IMN instead of RMN? |

It was a forum discussion, and from what I can recall, the general consensus was that it would probably remain the RMN. I recall discussion about how the British Empire still maintained the RN moniker (although an argument could be made with regards to the Japanese and the IJN). The SLN had always disdainfully considered the RMN as the navy of the PIPE dreams of Manticore
Pathetic Imperial Peerages Empirical of Manticore. Of course, some disgruntled core members that knew of this inside joke now laugh that the League has been beat upside the head with a pipe. Note: The etymology of 'pipe dream' would be consistent with kzt's insistence that at least one RMN officer was hitting the pipe... pipe dream /ˈpīp ˌdrēm/ Word Origin: -late 19th century: referring to a dream experienced when smoking an opium pipe. I'm sure a crack pipe would fit just as well. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

RMN vs IMN? I'd say "nah, bad PR". In general historical terms, an "imperial" navy was usually out to conquer territory, like the Andermani's IAN. The House of Winton has no desire to be known as conquistadorial.
The Star Empire of Manticore (SEM) (formerly the star KINGDOM (SKM in our parlance) is actually avidly republican, just a constitutional monarchy to boot. Folks joined the Star Empire because they wanted to, not at the point of an "imperial gunboat sword", and changing the name would change the galactic perception of the RMN's role in the Honorverse. ---------------------
All my posts are YMMV, IMHO, and welcoming polite discussion, extension, and rebuttal. This is the HonorVerse, after all |

Victoria and her heirs were referred to as the "Queen-Empress/King-Emperor" until Indian (and Pakistani) Independence. The Royal Navy (and the RAN, RCN, RNZN, etc.) Royal Flying Corps, and Royal Air Force (RAAF, RCAF, RNZAF, etc) all remained "Royal." On the other hand, the Austro-Hungarian Navy was referred to as the "K-und-K" (from the German for" Imperial and Royal"). The imperial Austrian crown and the royal Hungarian crown were separate distinctions that just happened to rest on the same head. |
