I was wondering what everyone's thought on what a sting actually looks like,

My thought was a single seat small air craft, that was like an inclosed "Star Wars Speeder" that is heavily armed. seeing how they run shotgun for air limos they can't be full sized air craft. Your thoughts?

counter-grav though, they could be twice the size of F-22 Raptors.

Can't find anything on them in House of steel, so might need someone with Jayne's. Or Max

You're probably not too far wrong with that. Probably something vaguely along the lines of the ESB speeders ... or maybe one of the SW starfighters. Or ... the whatever it was from Star Trek Nemesis.

Eh ... Countergrav cuts both ways, I think. Sure, they could be that big, but I don't think all, or even most, of them are.
They don't need wings for lift, only for maneuverability enhancement. Their engines are likely significantly more compact, and it's quite likely that they're significantly more fuel efficient, requiring less fuel for longer operational flight time.

Don't forget these things are LPO (Low Planetary Orbit) capable. I've always seen them as a counter-gravity fusion powered version of the F-35 Lightning II or AV-8B Harrier
STOVL type of aircraft.

My own feeling is that they would mass about 50 tons and have a crew of perhaps two or three. Probably a good mix of lasers and perhaps a few short ranged missles. Perhaps some projectile weapons also? I did not until just now know they were sub orbital hop capable. HB of CJ

They are actually much more capable than that. They are impeller drive ships.

Nothing in Jayne's or SITS. I would imagine they are smaller than a pinnance (which is the size of 757).

RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

A LAC may be smaller than a starship, but it still has to be able to achieve high acceleration rates (which means a military grade compensator), produce sidewalls, power its weapons—and find places to mount them—and generally act like a serious warship, or else people would simply ignore it.

Now sting ships are smaller than pinnaces or assault shuttles, so they'll probably cap out at a maximum of about 250 tons. I'd always thought they were almost purely air breathers, since the only time we see them is in regards to limos. Benjamin on his "informal dinner" at Harrington House, Harringtons travelling on Manticore/Sphinx/Grayson, etc etc.

We've never seen sting ships 'escorting' full up pinnaces. Recall Honor during Flag in Exile, and Steadholder Burdette sent an assassination team who used an impeller missile? There were no sting ships escorting her VIP pinnace.

Try reading the end of MoH when HH escorts QEIII to Imperator to meet a certain President and the bulk of her cabinet.

Was just yhinking that when I read down to your post. A couple trans-atmospheric sting ships are parked in Imperator's boat bay after escorting the queen's pinnace up.

And this is more participating in an attack run with pinnacles, and less escorting them. But in the short stories to attack oh the Octagon involved a mixed flight of pinnacles and sting ships. And there's one more mention somewhere of them esccorti get something down from orbit to the Roula Palace on Manticore.

But no solid description of their size, general appearance, or weapons fit.
