It's sad when the only words out of people's mouths our "I/we can't" or "it won't work" instead of trying to find ways to do things.
But then, what do I know - I'm nobody. |

-------------------- I have most of them in paper edition; some from the earlier CD's or ISO downloads from fifthimperium in digital text, reformatted into PDF on a tablet. BTW, the easypolls site had an embedded link that wanted to "scan my system for infected files" I don't fall for that and I hope you won't either... -- Stewart |

It is possible to set up a poll here on the forums, though I don't know how to do so off-hand.

The poll didn't have my choice. I use a Nexus 7 tablet, running Android 5.02, and primarily running Cool Reader for the epubs.

I am a cellulose individual. I like paper... I do not own any portable electronic media, not even a cell phone... oh wait I have hearing aides do they count? If you are out on a hike, out in the boondocks far from the civilized world and you are in trouble and your battery is dead on your electronic garbage a blank page from a book can be used to wipe your butt, start a fire to keep warm, or to start a fire to signal for help or to cook any prey or to boil water. Each to his own... I like books and I have had more than one treasured book rebound... Cheers |

I got my first Kindle in 2009. Since then, the only fiction I've bought for myself in print has been when for one reason or another the print version was available long before the ebook (which is almost never the case anymore). |

My wife uses the exact same system, plus paper books.
I read paper by preference when able; but Kobo reader and HP tablet read epub, pdf and doc when traveling. My desktop and laptop use Calibre to translate formats.

I have tons of works in electronic format. It's just so convenient. And a piece of cake to copy/paste from digital format for use in threads. But any of my favorite authors or books I also purchase as collectors copies and readers copies. When I'm at home, I'm just a hopeless romantic and I pick up a book. It will always be something special and romantic about curling up in a nook on your favorite sofa by a fireplace with pages rustling through your fingers. And I can fling a book if a certain character or situation HULKS me. Pavel Young has made me fling!
I have a very nice, specially made bookcase shipped from Germany that covers an entire wall in my study. It wouldn't look so hot with a single tablet sitting on it. I got the bookcase made in Germany because they do awesome work on bookcases made of wood from the Black Forest. Also from a past German gf, I have two amazing bookends made from the Berlin Wall. The two items, bookcase and bookends compliment each other and screams for nice leather-bound books. My sisters threaten to B&E my home and take it. Why they have to B&E when they have my security codes is beyond me. But their eyes water at my bookcase. Only very special books make it. My niece just wants the antique German cuckoo clock from the Black Forest that's the centerpiece of it all. Together, they all strike a pose and has been a firestarter of many a conversation. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. How do I enjoy books? Let me count the ways ... (sorry. Couldn't resist).
Got a first-generation Nook, a Kindle Paperwhite and a Galaxy Tab S. I read ebooks on all of them, using both Aldiko and Kindle apps on the tablet. I've got piles and stacks of paper books. I am happy with either for things I'm going to read and set aside. I prefer electronic for books that I can't get away from (as with the Honorverse) so I can read them when/wherever. It's a lot easier to read ebooks in the dark, especially since she-who-must-be-obeyed decided to use solid copper shades on the lamps on our nightstands. But for picture books, for treasured old stories (I still love Tommy Hambledon) or for things I already have in paper, I tend to prefer paper. Even though I did type Mathemagics into ebook format.
