RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

Thanks for the link. Looks like to have a graser, all we need now is anti-matter, graphene, liquid helium and Bose-Einstein Condensates. I think that if a Physicist was trying to create something that requires the most difficult things to make, they'd be hard-pressed to put all of those together! That's why there are t-shirts saying that "Graphene! It can do anything, except leave the lab"

Ok, seriously, it's not a lot of anti-matter, just positrons. And making positrons isn't too difficult, otherwise we wouldn't have Positron Emission Tomograhy. Methods for cooling to Bose-Einstein Condensates has been known for 25 years at least.

Yeah finding anti-matter isn't hard - I played with Positron interactiosn back in College. It's just storing them in quantity and harnessing them for your will that is the problem.
