Compensators only work up to a certain point then they don't work any extra, but they still do their job.

Say 500 G. Go 505 G you only feel 5 G.

Now I'm still not entirely sure how honor pulled 5 G but presumedly that was with a compensator or only part of one???

Anyhow, if one isn't trying to be stealthy, and is using a wedge, one could go faster than ones compensator. The compensator would still work, up to the 500 G.

Correct?
Nope. Compensator either work or they don't.
If it's good for 500g using your wedge and you go to 505g you (briefly) experience 505g - with catastrophic results.

That's why most people only ran at up to 80% of max performance (although more lately Haven sector militaries have pushed that to a routine 90%). So except in an emergency they wouldn't go above 400g (or 450g) to leave some safety margin. (Side note, in a grav wave which is vastly more powerful grav 'sump' that same compensator is safely good for over a 1000g)

You might be thinking of Honor's maneuver at Hades, but that using grav plates to reduce the experienced acceleration. Those do work 100% up to a point and then proportionally after that. (But even so the best known, the ones the MAlign uses in their spider ships, allows a top accel of well less than most impeller drive vessels)

Yes, but you would need to use grav plates to prevent the extra accel from liquefying your crew to the back of the ship. could work, but the question is, is the extra accel worth liquefying crew if a grav plate fails, and will you need more grav plates, or will the current ones work at 90 degrees as well as straight up and down for modifying the felt gravity?

No, thats wrong.
See http://infodump.thefifthimperium.com/entry/Harrington/306/1 specifically 2&3
Also http://infodump.thefifthimperium.com/entry/Harrington/143/1

If you try to run a 500g compensator at 505 for any amount of time, the compensator will fail, and the crew will get hit with all 505g's.

Ah. forgot about the the second link explicitly stating that you couldnt stack compensator and grav plate. so the liquefaction would always happen then.

Does the weight of the ship effect the compensator limit?

Not directly, but the size of the wedge does.

Actually, I believe the volume of the ship affects the compensator limit. The smaller the volume, the more efficient it is.

Both. The volume enclosed in the field, and the strength of the inertial sump both affect the efficiency of the compensator.

Of course, to move a larger mass at the same velocity as a smaller mass, a larger wedge is required.

It appears to be an odd relationship of volume, mass and wedge size. The size of the wedge is dictated by the relative distance between the rings. The distance between the rings dictates the size of the rings and the volume that can be compensated. The size of the rings helps dictate the size of the nodes in the ring. The size of the nodes fitted in the rings dicatates the power of the wedge. And the power of the wedge sets the acceration for a given mass. And the size of the Wedge limits the compensation effect.

So lowering the ships's mass will not increase a ship's accel, because the wedge is still the same as that for the heavier ship.

After the YS, or OB if you prefer. You need ships and are relying on Haven to upgrade their ships, and build a your ships and Grayson ships. What you need is as many ships as you can have now, or as soon as possible.

No, they don't. The Grand Alliance has sufficient warships to defeat all other conventional military forces in the known Honorverse, combined. Haven and the Andermani Empire have undamaged yards; Erewhon has brand new yards. Those have sufficient capacity to cover any needs prior to Manticore and Grayson getting their own yards back online.
