It is a shame that Tekerov didn't bring a couple of Rollands or a BCP to the party.

3 Sag-Cs, 3 Avalons, and 4 Roland's would have made for a different story, even with only mk 16-Es.

Following that thought, in the above scenario with all modern light units at Monica, should the Rolands held back their fire until the Avalons fired, or should they thickened the Sag-C fire at some point?

You assume three Solarian BCs would survive to get into range of the Avalons. This assumption is mistaken.

3 Sag-Cs and 4 Rolands could pump a double broadside of 336 Mark 16s with mod G warheads. At most it would take one launch per BC to kill them. Heck, they could probably do the job with single broadsides at each ship and maybe the BCs would only be wrecked instead of finely powdered.

See: 5 Rolands vs 4 BCs at Saltash

Double broadsides totally 120 missiles each destroyed one Solarian BC per launch.

Remember, I specified the early 1920 Mk 16-E missile with the classic Cruiser weight warhead shared with the Star Knight. This is what the Hexapuma was limited to at Monica.

All the action you mentioned used the later, much more powerful, capital weight Mk-16 G warhead.

I don't specifically remember the mod of the Mk16s used at Monican, nor that the warhead was specifically stated to be shared with the Star Knight's missiles - but certainly it was a cruiser/BC weight warhead because the more powerful Mod G wasn't developed and deployed yet.

Still in that alternate history where more modern ships were available I don't see any reason for any of the Mk16 equipped ships to hold fire. Yes that does mean the Rolands are probably shot dry before any survivors enter ERM or SDM range - but thickening the long range punch - and the hits before the Monican's figure out how to even partially adjust to RMN ECM seems well worth the somewhat lower hit percentages caused by the longer range fire.

We weren't told the mod until the next book where Helen was given the thought experiment of what she would have done if she had the new G mods instead of the old Es at Monica.

Oddly, if the Rolands fired at long range with the Sag-Cs, as the Rolands run dry, the Avalons could pick up the slack, (60 launchers vs 48) sending a fairly consistant weight at the opposition, assuming it survived that long.
