Couldn't find any detailed info regarding the Fleet Games which was a yearly competition designed to exercise Home Fleet. I imagine it is a clash of the Crushers. At any rate, I wonder if the Fleet Games usually coincide with graduation to also vet the newbies. I imagine that some officers have been a part of the Fleet Games on more than one occasion other than Home Fleet.
It'd be nice if the other appendages of the GA - RMN and GSN - sent units to participate in the yearly Fleet Games. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

LOL!!! That's exactly what a lot of us thought before I retired from the USN, though we called the "Career Manager" for our rating (Job Specialty) the Detailer. Did Ginger ever participate in any of Honor's simulations aboard Wayfarer? I don't recall.[/quote] The "Career Manager" was the Air Force term of art when I wore the blue ("They took the blue from the skies, and a pretty girl's eyes, and a touch of Old Glory, too, and gave it to the men who proudly wear the U. S. Air Force Blue They proudly wear the Blue! The U. S. Air Force Blue!"*) Ginger was a newly promoted SCPO (way out of zone, to make up for Wayfarer's manning deficiencies) in, IIRC, impellers. She went Mustang sometime after that tour. Ginger was a Commander, IIRC, serving as Hexapuma's Engineering Officer during the Monica affair. She must have been promoted to Captain (JG) after the Yawata Strike. * Original lyrics for "The U. S. Air Force Blue". Last edited by Fox2! on Fri Feb 24, 2017 1:49 am, edited 1 time in total.

"DL" was the type designation for US Frigates before the Great Cruiser Conversion. Depending on whom you ask, DL stood for either "Destroyer Leader" or "Destroyer, Large." Just as Alaska (BC) and her sisters were "Big Cruisers", not "Battle Cruisers." When NATO had a frigate convention, the European countries sent 2500-5000 ton vessels. The US sent Bainbridge or Truxton. When the Perry class came along, existing DLGs were redesignated as Cruisers (CG/CGN), and Perry was declared to be a frigate (FFG), more in keeping with her Allied contemporaries. |

She was promoted to Captain J.G when she was transferred to Weyland, see the first sentence of chapter 5 of _Mission of Honor_ (Weyland's evacuation drill started in chapter 27 of _MoH_). ----------------------------

The reason for Honor's early promotion is detailed in "Ms Midshipwoman Harrington" in the first Honorverse anthology. IIRC, the palatte and careless driver was Abigail Hearnes in "Service of The Sword" in the anthology of the same name. .
. . Answers! I got lots of answers! (Now if I could just find the right questions.) |

It sure would be nice to have storyline provide us with some of the exploits of Commandant Hartley. Aside: Honor must have flown her plane mighty darn low at the Academy regatta when she buzzed Hartley to cause him to dive off of his sloop into the water. What was that gal thinking? She had a little Top Gun in her even back then didn't she? This was also a thing in Top Gun with Maverick constantly buzzing the tower. Is this a thing in the United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program? Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. In the side story Ms Midshipwoman Harrington, Honor was promoted by Cpt Bacfish(sp) midway through her snotty cruise due to her saving the ship from being destroyed by a privateer. That would explain the time difference in the dates of promotion. .

Plus Michelle was notoriously touchy about any perception of favoritism towards her in assignments and protmotion. Consider the discussion (counseling session?) between Mike and Honor when Mike accuses Honor of favoritism for getting her assigned to command BATCRURON 81, and the squadrion being assigned as Part of 8th Fleet's battle cruiser component. |
