Yabbut imagine what a pickle it would be for the High Ridge government when Grayson went ahead and won the war after they wussed out. There would be no special war taxes for them to loot, elections would take place on schedule, the Liberals and Progressives would lose seats in the Commons, and the San Martin peers would be seated in the Lords. Giancola and Grosclaude would never get a chance to play their little diplomatic game.
A lot of things would be much better in the short term, but it's hard to say how they would end. Would there be a prosperous and free Restored Republic? President Pritchart? How long would Oscar Saint-Just last in this scenario? -------------- Relax, Charlie; I've got an ANgle. |

St. Just would either be dead, in prison for war crimes (whether put there by Grayson or the new Havenite government), or on the run; certainly he wouldn't be allowed to remain in power. |

Excellent points. In fact, considering your very good points, had Honor actually been killed by Cordelia Ransom, or was still stuck on Hades, I wonder if the GSN would have prosecuted that section of the war to completion, because that would have been Protector Benjamin's obligation to his steadholder. Thoughts? ---------------------
All my posts are YMMV, IMHO, and welcoming polite discussion, extension, and rebuttal. This is the HonorVerse, after all |

To quote that great expert on Admiralty Law, Tom Clancy, misfeasance by the officers of a ship is called "barratry", not mutiny, |

Depending on the oath that RMN officers take it might have been legal for Honor to command the attack. If it was to obey the monarch and her officers and Elizabeth gave her permission to attack it would have been %100 legal.
