At the risk of heresy should Shannon or Sonja prove to be unrepentingly hetero- to Rose's chagrin, methinks Shannon ends up with.... Lester Tourville.
I'd love to pair her off with Tremaine but there's a little "where do they settle down? problem as Haven and Manticore are still separate star nations. I think the analogy might be "how often do British Naval officers marry German Naval Officers?" or something like that, minus the language barrier. Meanwhile, I have a pairing for Susan Hibson in mind... Warner Caslet... ---------------------

The dual citizenship arrangements RFC sees in the future for Manticore and Haven would settle that issue well enough. There's still the issue of settling anywhere for naval officers with careers sending them all over the place. It's better for station commanders, their staffs, and other officers or ratings serving in one place for extended periods, or at least for those serving out of a specific place. Shannon has that going for her currently, and, assuming they keep her working in development, construction, training, and operational planning, she may stay fairly sedentary. Henke, Tourville, Tremaine, Hearns are all likely to be moving all over the place for years to come.
Well, could be. I don't see anything especially against it. I don't see much especially for it either. |

Mike Henke is perhaps the easiest to ship. There is only one credible candidate. Steven Westman, hopefully General Steven Westman of the Quadrant Guard, is the perfect foil for the Countess. He's also a wealthy commoner so he fits the constitutional succession requirements should she end up on the throne.

Nah, I'm with rose on this one. Henke and Oversteegen ought to be able to drive each other up a tree and around the command decks (and dare we eventually say, less public spaces) for the foreseeable future, and have fun doing it. Anyone without at least Oversteegen's willingness to roll up his sleeves and get rollicking would be too boring for Henke. Westman is too ornery -- Michelle would eventually shoot him and dump the body into a nearby star. ---------------------

I think the High Ridges/Greater Windcombes/Oversteegens would be unbearably delighted to have marriage connections with the Wintons. It's quite the feather to have in one's social cap. However, it'd be somewhat incestous. IIRC, Michael Oversteegen is related to Queen Elizabeth through his father's side of the family, which means he is also related to Michelle. |

It's acknowledged to be rather distant, so the "incestuous" aspect would be rather dim, further diluted by the split aspect of marriage DNA. I think you're right that it would piss off many members of the Conservative association, and delight others. Michelle would give the starchy types near apoplexic shock whenever possible of course. But it wouldn't hurt the Winton dynasty at all with the biggest portion of the "(hu)man on the street" Manticoran populace. ---------------------

That's actually one of the reasons I am so in favor of it. Watching Michelle Henke fall in love with someone she's spent most of her life hating?? Gimme. ~*~

Oh, I don't know about hating... but definitely a genuine impish rivalry bordering on... fun. She likes being one better than the whiz kid with the stuck up accent, and he seems to take it with good spirits. She be SO in trouble if his charms win out... or Dicey takes a liking to Michael O. ---------------------

The "it" there was Henke/Tourville, not Henke/Oversteegen. It's entirely possible she and Oversteegen have a history that already includes nekkid touching - they're certainly familiar. Why rose wants to inflict Oversteegen on Abigail Hearns is beyond me. I don't know whatever vicious crime Abby's committed off-screen to merit that kind of punishment.... |
