Only diff I can see is that now we'd have Allison on the sideline making wisecracks as well.

And of course, we all know the first thing Allison would say. "Honey, I knew you weren't getting enough oxygen to your brain way up there."

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Honor chimes in:

"But Dad, you said old and sneaky will beat youth and skill every time! Oh wait. That might have been SarMajor Babcock, come to think of it..."

People keep assuming HH gets her ass kicked...

I ain't that sure.

HH has been around the block a few times, likes to fight Marines and has killed people up close and personal more than a few times.

Advantage to Thandi, yes...but as much as people are thinking?

Nah. I'm not sure of that.

Oh, I don't think we really think Honor'd get her butt kicked that badly, they're just sparring. We're having more fun with Nimitz' tree-cat style commentary should Honor be out of her league temporarily.

I personally think it would look like a slam fest in three dimensions with blood flying all over the place, teeth flying, an ear missing, hair embedded in the floor and someone loosing a finger (torn off) thinking "I'll get that replaced in an hour but I'm not tapping out..."

It's 2,000 years in the future so a serious injury today would be for them a doctor's visit and a lecture about, "You know, medical science doesn't make you immortal...you need to watch the spinal injuries and chest fractures that injure your heart! And a depressed skull fracture is no laughing matter! That could be serious if not treated immediately!"

The fight would be awesomeness.

Agreed, except Honor doesn't regen, so they'd have to have a "no causing missing body parts" rule. I think they'd have to go more fully padded however to avoid serious injuries.

Push come to shove though, the reason I think Palane would nearly always win is twofold, genetic plus Marine training frequency and methods. Gunny Hallowell was probably Thandi's size, weight wise, and HH's match with an RMN Marine was fairly even -- a point either way, and she enjoyed the match immensely. If anything, Honor has likely only got better since then. What she has not done that we know about is sparred against anyone her own speed, that has Hallowell's reach and weight disparity. Against someone of similar genetics, in either the wrestling or striking arts, she's a middleweight in the heavyweight division.

Cutting the hyperbole, I bet the two of them would enjoy having each other as sparring partners. Thandi would really enjoy the coup de vitesse and not having to hold back nearly as much, and Honor would enjoy learning to tackle the various fighting styles that Palane has mastered and figuring out how to negate the bigger fighter's other advantages .

Hyperbole mode back on. Besides which, the treecat and spectator commentary would be purely awesome!

Didn't Honor have that sparring bot set to a dangerous level?

Wey-lllll...we're kinda thinking...there's BOT level dangerous, and then there's "Black Victor looks up in astonishment"-level mayhem dangerous".

Not sure how far you can turn up the dial on the 'droid. Not sure I WANT to know how far you can turn up the dial on former Lt. Palane.

Good thing they are both female.
Imagine the level of mayhem they could make with the help of some testosterone.

I like my Y chromosome, but it is capable of some REALLY iffy decision making.
And self control/anger issues. ;)

It doesn't matter what your chromosomes are, male or female, anyone that is trained and experienced can be dangerous. In this case, Thandi was put in the best role her genetics could get her; ground/melee combat. With that and the years of experience she has in that type of fighting, she has the edge over Honor. Now if Honor had chosen to be in the RMM (Royal Manticore Marines)... then she might have the edge with a decade or more of direct experience in the combat style Thandi is trained in.
