I'm pretty sure you can't raise a buckler at the same time the aspect it protects is protected by a Wall, and I'll lay odds that you can't raise a buckler at the same time as the opposing Wall, and possibly even both Bucklers at once.

Buckler plus sails could work, but I don't think RFC wants to go there, it makes putting Alpha Nodes on LACs, particularly Shrikes, too attractive because of their use a convoy escorts

Hi SCC,

Don't rule out bucklers and bow walls etc in hyper combat.

There were those who argued strongly that was how Oversteegen surprised the 2 pirate cruisers in hyper at Tiberian, though others point to his evident heavy missile expenditure which the former claim was from battle damage.

Though I subscribe to the second explanation, bow walls in hyper, ie a grav wave, seem like a great idea since the wedges aren't involved so head on attacks effectively protect the rest of the ship because of the very steep angles needed to get past the 300+ km sails at a ~1 km long target.

Even a broadside attack like Helen Zilwicki's would permit only a narrow firing angle for the attacker, all of which I don't think was lost on the RMN when they added it to hyper warships. 8-)

Any snippet or post from RFC is good if not great!

Bow Walls would be as inoperable as normal Sidewalls inside a grav wave

Standard sidewalls can not operate in a grav wave, because they are tied into the wedge. No wedge, no sidewalls. The full bow and stern walls seem to be the same tech as a standard side wall, so probably a no go. From what RFC has said, on the other hand, bubble sidewalls would work in a grav wave. We do know that a buckler does not tie directly into the wedge, but that is about all we know of it, so it is a definite maybe.

No you definitely can't raise a buckler and a full wall on the same end simultaneously; but RFC did post a while back that you can protect one aspect with a full wall and the other with a buckler. (Which was the config I meant)

Guess I should have spelled that out more clearly in my post.

A Shrike -- or any LAC -- doesn't have room for Sails and a hyper generator. That's one reason the Nat Turner Class Frigates of Torch are more than twice the size of Shrikes.
