This film will, if it gets made, define the term "compromise." We will not get a 16 year old looking Honor (nor will we get anyone we ever heard of), we will not get our vision of one of our favorite characters (What? Truman is a redhead?), we may not even get anything that even looks like our picture of OBS. Hopefully we will get spacecraft with hammerheads. But treecats? I can't wait to see that!
Is my skepticism showing? Oh, dear. I live in tinseltown and have friends in the movie industry. Whatever gets made depends on the budget--so who is financing this film? Anyone, yet? |

Cute, is not a word I would use to describe Noomi. I like Noomi and I like Rhona but aren't the two of them rather diminutive in stature? The great thing about living in these times however is the access producers have to the global talent pool. Folks in Singapore speak English very well as do Australians, Canadians, South Africans, etc. And all those countries have people of Asian extraction living there. Perhaps somewhere "over there" the actress who will play Honor is building her resumé as we speak. |

I mostly agree with what you just said, although its not that long a shot that it will ever get made - there is a certain amount of interest in the industry atm looking for a military sci-fi franchise and Weber's books do sell in big enough numbers for it to be a possibility. However, to quote Terry Pratchett (when referring to his own works being adapted): 'The difference between me and Neil in our attitude to movie projects is that he doesn't believe they're going to happen until he's sitting in his seat eating popcorn, and I don't believe they're going to happen.' -------------------------------

OK... I know it said who would make a good HH.... but I think we should just put down our own favorite ideas for the cast.
Note: This is only the cast of On Basilisk Station, not the later novels. This is the list of characters for the novel/book. HMS Fearless Honor Harrington Alistair McKeon Dominica Santos Andreas Venizelos Mercedes Brigham Rafael Cardones Samuel Houston Webster Nikos Papadapoulos Lois Suchon Fritz Montoya Prescott Tremaine Horace Harkness Sally McBride Medusa Dame Estelle Matsuko Barney Isvarian Michel Reynaud HMS Warlock Lord Pavel Young Paul Tankersley Senior officers Lord Hamish Alexander Sir James Bowie Webster Sebastian D'Orville Sonja Hemphill PMSS Sirius Johan Coglin Jamal Others Wallace Canning Bryan Westerfeldt Klaus Hauptman Denver Summervale I honestly only have 2 people that I see in my head playing the people of the Honorverse. Prescott 'Scotty' Tremaine: Jean-Luc Bilodeau (Josh Trager on Kyle XY) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1700638/ Lord Hamish Alexander: Ed Quinn (Nathan Stark on Eureka) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0703831/ -

Not to burst your bubble, but it doesn't really matter who plays most of the people you've listed. Just about the only important ones would be Honor, Alister, Rafe or Andy (tactical officer) and James McGuiness; maybe the Havenite ambassador and/or the Captain of Sirius just to give a face to the antagonist side.
Everyone else, including Hamish, Fritz, Pavel Young, Paul, etc and as much as it pains me to admit it even Scotty and Chief are simply not relevant enough if you are not certain that there would be a sequel, and easy to reintroduce, or even switch actors with little to no fuss if the sequel(s) do turn out to be forthcoming. And now let the torches and pitchforks rise :D =-.--.--.*.--.--.-=

I doubt there will be any pitchforks. This topic defines the concept of an old punchbag in your grandfather's barn, made out of the hide of his great uncle's first horse. dreamrider |

Heh... honestly, I don't expect anyone to come up with the entire cast, but I would like to know who people picture in their head when they read the books. Actually, I was wondering if anyone thinks Ed Quinn would make a good Hamish. You really had to follow Eureka to know who I'm talking about, I just wonder if anyone else thinks he would work in the role. -

Its never going to happen (becasue this movie will never have that big a budget), but For Hamish - George Clooney, or Daniel Craig ~~~~~~

I'd add at least Harkness and Hamish to the list of characters who need some attention to casting. Certainly Hamish. I've never seen Eureka, but from his IMDB photos, Ed Quinn looks like he could do it.
On another note, I'm wondering how they might handle some of the background information. For instance, for obvious reasons, we can't have any dialogue that indicates that Young tried to rape Honor. I think some flashbacks might be useful - perhaps during the entire scene between Young and Honor, there are flashes, little snippets, indicating not only that it was real, but that it's weighing heavily on her mind. |
