Bethany, Rebecca, and Constance.

They're prime shipping material, no bubble wrap needed! :D

I assume that they're a bit past the age to remarry. Depending on how much younger the 2nd and 3rd are, they may still have a chance on Grayson (if they want one) but not with someone from a planet with prolong. Unless it was the saddest love-match ever, I suppose.

Oooh! Oooh! Eloise X Caitrin? Both lost love, both politically savvy and involved, both awesome? (There you go, my first official shipping suggestion. I've never made one before.)

This.... is not a pairing I'd ever thought of before.

What are the chances?

I have been wondering if one or more of our favourite Havenites might have a secret love. Cupid's arrow might have already struck and we don't know about it. In Haven people have good reasons to keep their romances secret. When Saint Just and Rob Pierre were in charge people feared that they or their loved one might be killed. Eloise Pritchard was Javier Giscard's peoples commissioner they would have both been killed had the wrong person discovered their relationship.
Even after Eloise becomes president there are still good reasons to keep a romance secret if you are a public figure.Haven has Smutsies!
" Smutsies - the modern heirs of the old pre-space paparazzi-had always had always been a particularly virulent fact of life in the peoples republic."
Javier Giscard and Eloise had "joint nightmares" about the smutsies discovering their romance.
If Eloise does find a new love she will be strongly tempted to keep the romance a secret. Who else might have a secret love?
The quotes are from At All Costs.

That's a very interesting question. And I admit that a part of me (a small part! Really!) is 'shipping Tom Theisman and Allen Higgins. (What?? )

Despite all my noise to the contrary, however - and secret hopes - I think it will be a few years yet before Eloise is even in a position to think about falling in love with someone else. When she lost Javier she lost part of herself, and that wound has to scar over - for it will never truly heal - before she's going to be thinking about a second love. (Which, of course, doesn't mean she hasn't been quietly falling in love with Tom all this time, and just isn't ready to be aware of it.)

(I would also like to point out that being adopted by a treecat would go a long way toward helping that healing process. *quietly nudges RFC*)

But certain other Havenites... I have to wonder, has Lester already met Michelle? And if he has, could he be secretly carrying a torch for the Queen's currently-absent cousin? Imagine what the smutsies would do with that - Haven's most senior active fleet commander in a romantic relationship with the Queen's first cousin, and a fleet commander herself?? They'd have a field day!

I just keep thinking that Giscard had his swimmers frozen and Eloise is going to become pregnant. Just can't shake that.

Anyways, I like the way you think.
Or to consider what secret romances RFC holds. :D

Something I'd really like to see is a genetic slaver love story. I thought we were going to see it with Paulo.

Come on, all these insanely beautiful and perfect people and no love affairs?!

Talk about a steroidal case of "Don't hate me 'cause I'm beautiful!"

Seriously, the best chance of Eloise falling in love will have to be with someone in her inner circle, whom understands the level of her pain.

Her losing Giscard cut her deeply.
I didn't like it very much either.

Come on RFC, after surviving all of those "Citizen Admiral this," "Citizen Admiral that," Eloise and Javier lose to Murphy and his silly laws of the Universe.

Any would be hard pressed to convince me that Honor would have found love if not for White Haven.

Paul left an immense whole in her heart that I'm afraid otherwise never would have been patched.

Eloise is exactly where Honor was.

Emphasis mine.

On one hand, I will always believe that, no matter how it ended, Eloise wouldn't have given up those twelve years with Javier for anything. She has loved and been loved to the fullest extent that a human being can love and be loved, and no amount of grief or shock can ever take that away from her.

On the other hand, if she does fall in love again, it must be with someone who understands her pain. Whether it's Tom Theisman, who stood by her through everything that came their way, or Allen, who understands helpless grief better than perhaps anyone else in the universe, or someone else entirely, that person will have to understand (and accept) that her heart was Javier's first, that she will always love him, and that in losing him she lost a part of herself, too.

That is, in fact, one of the reasons I think Tom is the most natural choice if she does fall in love again. I'm well aware that love rarely follows logic, but love must be built on something, and who does she have a stronger foundation with than Tom?

She is exactly where Honor was - and the one thing that gives me hope for her is that if Honor survived - survived to love again, even! - then so can Eloise. She will never forget what she had with Javier, and the grief for him will never leave her, but she can treasure the time she had with him as a part of herself and still love someone else, too.

I agree rose, at least on an emotional level Tom would be perfect for Eloise.

But it's the political considerations/ramifications that worries me.

I don't know how Haven's command structure works, or if they entertain their own version of the Articles Of War, yet it seems Eloise and Tom coming together in that manner would represent a conflict of interest on Haven's behalf.

That would represent an unbalance of power, wouldn't it?
Eloise and Tom = Protector of Grayson (in power) loosely?
