I've been wondering ever since I read "From the Highlands," did Ginny Usher ever receive prolong treatment? Is Kevin destined for sorrow and heartbreak like Bernardus Van Dort?

Assuming she managed to reach Haven space before she turned twenty-five, she is almost certainly a prolong recipient. The People's Republic may have had its flaws - a lot of flaws - but they enforce the Cherwell Convention even more stiffly than Manticore. Assuming she reached Haven space in time, she is virtually certain to be a prolong recipient, though she might have been restricted to first- or second-generation.

Also, why are you expecting my wrath? You're not dealing with one of my darlings, here. I love Ginny, but no hammer will be forthcoming. :P

Excuse you! My list of darlings is relatively short, actually.

....I just pretty much never talk about any other characters. :P

Also, another treecat q: Honor muses in "Best Laid Plans" that humans will now be outliving their 'cats. Has she actually given that any thought since she adopted? Have she and Nimitz discussed it? (Of course, given her career, it's unlikely to be an issue, but still...) I assume the 'cats in general have caught on to the change...
It depends IIRC CQ was about 13-14 S-years old in ABF so he could have fathered kittens before he bonded with DFB or he could have after the adoption. 'Cats who bond with humans don't often mate but they do often form physical relationships. Also Nimitz and sharp Nose could be a direct descendant of Morgana CQ's sister. Plus treecat clans are inter related family groups, so technically every current treecat from Bright Water is a descendant of Lionheart and Morgana.

I'm probably going to get punched for this, but...

I want to know where Eloise is in her grieving process.

Has the pain gone from searing to throbbing? Has she made as much peace as she can with losing him, or is she wracked with guilt? Does she think he died in vain? As much as I love the relationship, how in the bloody hell has she managed to forgive Honor and Elizabeth.... or has she?

Is my baby okay??

Or if not okay - because I don't know if she will ever be 'okay' again - is she as 'okay' as she is going to get?

And does she know how proud he must be of her? That she was more than worth dying for? That he has to be watching over her, even still? And that the best thing she can do in his memory is to live, to let herself feel joy, and perhaps, someday, to love again?

Of course I know the dangers of placing them in the line of fire, fondly remembering Admiral Couvousier.

But perhaps a novel showcasing their talents before they became cemented in their present posts.

For instance, Shannon Foraker. We were lucky to have met Shannon before she became uber-valuable.

Of course, certain Admirals would argue, rightfully so, that she was always valuable.

I for one miss my little resident tac-witch. But would it not be nice to see Hemphill, Caparelli, and Givens in their earlier years?

Even Couvousier. What battles they could have fought!

Perhaps I missed a book that does showcase their talents??? (my fingers are not crossed behind me back :D )

I don't think there has ever been any textev for Pat Given's early career. We do know that Tom Caparelli was critically injusred while on duty in Silesia and got put back together by one Alfred Harrington (while he was still a RMN doctor)--mentioned in Ashes of Victory, IIRC.

But yeah, seeing some more background history for pat and Tom would be nice.

Pat Givens is mentioned in House of Steel as King Roger'liason with ONI as a lieutenant. IIRC, she got Roger that spray on anidote that allowed him to smoke cigars without his wife catching him at it.

Hmm, hard to say. She still flinches and experiences stabs of pain and grief when the subject of Javier and/or Solon is brought up.

I think she has forgiven Honor and Elizabeth. She recognizes that it wasn't personal (not even on Elizabeth's part). You could look at it the other way too; Honor and Elizabeth have forgiven her and Theisman for re-starting the war and attacking Manticore...

She doesn't seem to be interested in romance at all yet but that could just be the way RFC's writing her at the moment.

Another bit of info I'd like to know: how is Eloise and most of her government able to function properly being away from Haven for so long? Elizabeth made a comment about how difficult it was for her just to visit Grayson and here Eloise has been gone for a while and is much further away.

Which is proof that she is a far stronger, kinder, and all-around better human being than I ever could be. But if she wasn't still grieving, she wouldn't be human.

For all my Tom/Eloise fantasies, I would honestly be okay if she never fell in love again. She and Javier were soul mates. You don't just move on from that. Learn to live again, yes - but I would completely understand if she remained single for the rest of her life.

I think it helps that most of her Cabinet was with her. Essentially, the Republic's government was being run out of Landing, not Nouveau Paris, for the months Eloise was on Manticore. And thanks to the Trevor's Star terminus, turnaround time for communication with Haven's Congress is almost as fast as it is with Grayson's government. Elizabeth didn't have the benefit of taking most of her government with her to Grayson.

Besides, Eloise was only on Manticore for something like four months - I think it's mentioned that she's returning to Nouveau Paris after Roger and Rivka's wedding, along with most of her Cabinet. I'd expect she'd leave an ambassador and appropriate staff - not to mention Tom Theisman - in Landing, but my guess is that communication will be by dispatch boat between the two capitals for the foreseeable future. (Or Honor Alexander-Harrington.)

Thanks for the mental image. I busted my gut with this  .

Who is Charles? Is he still pushing shady technology like a used starship salesman? I remember him from two stories: An Act of War and With One Stone. Does anyone know if he was mentioned else where? I wonder if he is Mesan agent or really a concerned Solly citizen?
