It depends on what type of ship Rachel is assigned to? If she's assigned to a heavy cruiser, a good bet is that ship will have a sudden transfer of a squad of Grayson Marines on joint duty. As to Joanna the RMN will follow tradition and assign no additional protection except for normal duties situations.

I sort of recall Rachel was interested in engineering. That MIGHT lead to fewer guards since she would be less likely to leave the ship. Of course, that would be after the snotty cruise. And, of course she has a treecat of her own. |

No such thing as Grayson Marines - the Grayson Army provides boarding and security forces for the GSN. ******

That changed, the GSMC is a sub branch of the Grayson Army. But I can see a squad or two from the 5019th Special Battalion transferring in all of a sudden. |

Seriously? A squad to protect a princess not even in the line of succession? Women are still barred fro inheriting the Sword, but not the keys, IIRC. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There is no GSMC as of 1921 - from HoS -
The 5019th would still be considered an Army unit, unless there has been a reorg since the Yawatta Strike. ******

More sepcifically, Abigail became part of the Owens succession at some point between her middy cruise and her assignment to Nasty Kitty, when Grayson law was amended to make Faith heiress to Harrington Steading as the oldest sister of the 'deceased', and then-childless, founding Steadholder.
At which point, it was realised that all those newly-entitlted daughters required the company of the single armsman normally detailed to protect any potential heir not the heir apparent. And a certain RMMC sergeant was persuaded - by means still unknown - to accept a commission in the Owens Guard and fill that role for Abby. The same legislation reaffirmed the restriction of the Protectorship to heirs male, so not only do Rachel and her sisters have no place in the succession, neither, currently, will their children.

I would assume that if Benjamin's male children die without male heirs, and/or Benjamin's brother dies without male heirs, then the male heirs of Benjamin's daughters would be in line for the Protectorship. .

The Graysons have a history of being ... shall we say, inventive, in finding a way to get an heir. Accepting a grandson by the Protector's daughter, if there are no other male heirs, might be better than legitimating a previous Protector's by-blow to create a male heir through a male line. |
