A CLAC has a heavily armoured core and broadsides dotted with hangar bays. A SD(P) has heavy armour wrapped around a hollow core.

If you want both capabilities, you need to give up most of the armouring and end up with half a LAC wing and half a SD(P)'s pod load.

On paper, that's not such a bad idea. If all the LACs are Katanas, the hybrid would have less combat sustainability for greatly improved missile defense.

One of the problems comes back to the reduced armour. This is going to be a fragile vessel, even comparing with the CLAC. A SD(P) takes about 250 missile hits to be mission-killed. The hybrid would probably be closer to 150, maybe 100 and chances of a golden BB would be higher, not to mention the LAC bays are the first things to be damaged.
Yep. An since you rarely send ships of any significant size anywhere along you can get most of the advantage, but without the hybrids disadvantages, by simply making up 'hybrid' batrons of 3-4 SD(P)s and 2-3 CLACs.

No need to design the hybrid, and if you need only LACs or only SDs it's easier to reshuffle your units than to use a hybrid in a role that the pure design would be better suited for.

It's generally considered impolite promise to return people, then to only return them after they have died of old age.

How many treecats do you really think are paired with trained interrogators and how long do you think a basic interview is? Do the math.

Yep sure is a pity you can't hire "wild" treecats, and teach intarrogators sign language....wait a second... :D

Put a 1000 people INA room, like a university lecture hall, then have a few pointed questions asked. The interesting ones will quickly become apparent. 30 minutes worth of questions and 12 hours plus reset times, you get 200,000 people scanned, initially, in a day.

6 days to a week and you scan your 1.2 million people 1.1 million you send home via Beowulf or another nearby Sollie world full of media.

100 people per row, 10 rows, and 10 cats and 10 interrogators walking along the row during each key word question being asked and repeated. Not only will it freak the prisoners out but it will convince them that the cats can read minds, not just emotions.

The last 100,000 you repeat the process over another two or three weeks 100 at a time. Until you are sure you have who you want. Then keep the few you do want and send the rest back home.

It maybe that none have information or you might catch a low level expendable Firebrand. If nothing else you keep them a little longer then send them home too.

Honor had actual discussions with an MA agent and has NO CLUE about him.

The MA is running a family based conspiracy last I knew.

That was before Oyster Bay and Cachat-Zilwicki's return to Haven. I don't think she has met the guy since then. The operative point is, Honor did not know anything like the Mesan Alignment existed when she met the Havenite Cabinet.

She did pick up some bad mindglow vibes, but chose to interpret them as natural Havenite negativity towards Manticorans.

How about making a modular ship that can be configured for any use upgrades or the like. A base ship based on the main frame designs that will accomplish any needed feat. It would have to have the SD-P armour and resistance, and then have different kinds of "modules" that can be attached.

Base SD frame with heavy armour SD-P modules.
Base SD frame with CLAC modules.
Base SD frame with QShip modules.
Base SD frame with BC modules.

Modules can be made to modularly fit the frame and do any number of tasks.

Could also have two different sizes of frame works or back bones.

A smaller one for DD's CL & HC (CH?). Plus civilian use.

Make civilian modules as well for cargo or people transporting. With QShip modules one might have 3 or four modules per ship, or more; and with 3 additional cargo modules in time of need one could refit quickly all the ships one needs when one needs them.

A common skeleton ship if you will. Heavily armoured cores much more so than any civilian ship, but allowing said civilian ship to be retrofitted in a short time a month perhaps or maybe a day to turn a small modular freighter into a modular Rowland.

Or a large cruise liner into a full SD-P.

Any large ship could transport any large or small module from anywhere to anywhere, as any small ship could move any small module.
Modules would have the nodes on them so a civil wedge could be upgraded to a military wedge just by changing a module.

Modular

Like a Semi or Articulated truck or Lorrie

Arrive in a system and just drop off outside the hyper limit a cargo module to a waiting tug or system transport.

Cut way down on loading and unloading time.

In a day you could detach a module. Attach a new one before a traditional freighter could even do a Zero Zero orbit of a planet. Let alone moving cargo to terminus locations and leaving the cargo. It would be security checked and cleared by the astro freight control. Docked or parked in a waiting area by a local tender and picked up by another ship at some point.

No more unnecessarily long routes with wait times of days or weeks at each place. Just hyper in drop a module and pickup another &/or hyper out.

Base skeleton may be more expensive than a purpose built ship but operating savings would cover any such costs. Plus as a military ready ship the Government would likely have a incentive for an operator to adopt such ships.
