They never planned to bombard Hypatia, they were moving closer to the planet to make hitting the orbitals easier.

Yes, that would be an EE violation which nobody has denied; but Duckk just wrote that he does not believe that he ever stated that the Solarian League would not violate the Edict. What he has consistently stated was that the League was not crazy enough to vaporize a planet.

The statement "I hate being right" should be plastered with "LOL"s and laughing emojis, since there is no way that can be taken seriously.

Agreed. That was my point. As I always thought they would do. If you have thousands of ships in the reserve (at the time I thought they could be easily activated) how can they be stopped from raining terror all over the galaxy by "looking their victims in the eye."

Neither was I talking about vaporizing planets. So you can't take his response in that context, out of context, if that response was not prompted.

But I do hate being right. I do. I do. I do. Because you are going to make my life a living, copper-plated Cordelia Ransom. :D

Which can only mean that there was a misunderstanding and whatever your wording was at the time, it lead him to believe that is what you meant.

Which is why I wish we could find the evidence, because our exchange was not made in a vacuum. There was a discussion going on as usual both prior and after the exchange. CONTEXT.

Regardless, I was right about what would happen. :D :o

Whatever; but you hate it more when I give you grief, because you are wrong.

Because of the possibility of a misunderstanding; you being right (about an EE violation), does not mean that Duckk was wrong (about a planet sterilization event).

No tlb! That is what you have never understood.

I love it when you give me grief, and everyone else too, when it is warranted. I do not want agreement for the sake of; that is as bad as disagreement for the sake of. Both are counterproductive to good conversation.

Now, ThinksMarkedly had the courage and common sense to admit that I was close? I appreciate that.

The League sent the SLN ---in batches of about 100 BCs with higher support and ammunition ships- to wipe away the orbital infrastructure and essentialy everything in space in the way of ships in multiple systems. Systems who had neither an SDF, any particular reason to have warships from an allied treaty partner in system, and probably not much more than a few LACs or lightly armed Customs cutters.
Go in and wipe away the totality of what we are given to understand is where industrialized systems do their manufacturing and materials processing, plus orbital habitats, planetary stations (transfer or otherwise) and in one case it was related that they took away or destroyed every spaceborn vehicle down to "rowboats"
So they deliberately destroyed the non-planetary manufacturing capacity, habitats and everything else and did this as a lesson/warning not to trade with Manticore or Beouwlf of anybody who wouldn't cave into the edicts of the Mandarins and the unelected bureaucracy of the SL

Why didn't they send SD? Because by that time Kingsford and many other senior naval officers realized that no SLN could either run away fast enough nor survive encoutering a GA BC. They also couldn't afford any more losses to the SLN- almost all of which came because they launched attacks on Manticorian systems including the MBS.

This is terrorism, no other word for it. Oh, they didn't commit an EE violation by bombarding the planets involved....oh no, they swept in unannounced in an undeclared attack on undefended systems and crippled them such that they were going to be forced to totally rebuild the orbital infratructure while cutting off their ability to fund that and leaving them with no existing way to start the rebuilding without out outside help (no starships, no shuttles etc that were not already on the ground when the intrusion occurred).

Batches of 100 BCs? Does anyone know the average force used by the SLN to terrorize the galaxy?

The SLN didn't think they would have to commit an EEV in the beginning, but plans were inserted into the databanks if need be. Is my memory correct that even Filareta was provided with a contingency plan which included a drive-by shooting if the MBS defenses prooved intact?

Question. Although the MAlign is responsible for inserting at least one of the nefarious contingency plans into the SLN's reportoire, how did these plans go unnoticed to the SL at large? It seems that morally responsible officers would balk to someone, if there were any morally responsible officers.

Sealed orders. Break glass in case of fire.

If they are contingencies, there's no need for all COs to have been briefed on them ahead of time. There must have been dozens if not hundreds of contingency plans, procedures, and checklists. For example, what should a BatCruRon CO do if they'd found themselves surrounded by a superior force?

In particular, most COs might balk at the original Case Buccaneer and Case Fabius plans, so they wouldn't ever be briefed on them ahead of time. You don't want everyone in the SLN, even just the COs, to know about such orders, because they would leak to the public and press. OFS Governors would know, though. They would point to the CO to go open those files, which would then give legitimacy to what the OFS bureaucrat would want the FF to do.

We know the files were not encrypted because the RMN read them. If they were encrypted and nobody on the ship had the keys then they wouldn’t be reading them.

You don’t hide plans for emergencies. You practice them so everyone knows what to do.

It’s like Sully over the Hudson getting a message from the airplane: “The birdstrike requires the use of the the emergency engine out manual. Please unlock the safe, remove the manual from it’s sealed envelope labeled HJ43, read pages 2-27 and follow the checklist on page A37.”

How is that gonna work?
