I wouldn't sell Judah short against Jenny in the sneakiness dept. Remember as early as FiE ch 12 Honor calls him "a sneaky devil" as he comes up with an innovative combat plan. And textev in the nest chapter suggests that Honor thinks he learned wisdom from being caught mid-sneak, a fate which also happened to Jenny in the one battle we have seen her fight in detail.

Well, I don't know that she got caught mid-sneak, I think it was that she had the short pile of chips in the all in poker tourney known as going against 8th Fleet. Did good for a couple hands....

Now then, just to make it fun. What if we make this "three D chess, except each piece represents different size units, squadrons, and fleets? The ship or pieces can win unfair battles if they're lucky, but the "jump in and out" has to resemble the chess piece it represents.

Now you have to be a good chess player AND a fiendishly good strategist and tactition....

No what I can imagine is that we OUGHT to design an Honorverse 3D chess set that can be printed by a 3D printer. Get RFC to sign off and I'd buy!

If the theme offers up black is RHN pieces and white is RMN. I may as well play black against Tierney!

If SD (king of ships) are rooks/castles then what will you use as king/queen.

I'm thinking DD for rooks, Cruisers as Knights, bishops BC queen DN and king a SD

In the case of the RMN, the likeness of Elizabeth as Queen, and although he's called Prince Justin, I'm sure he's the King of Elizabeth's heart.

For the RHN, Eloise's image as Queen(President), and I don't think she'll mind using Giscard's image as King - and I'm certain Rose won't mind at all.

Popular chess sets are the ones where the Kings, Queens and pawns are readily identifiable, and not mistakable. They should be people.

I think you buy sets, aka you could order an RMN set for one side of the board*, Haven the other, or GSN, Mayan/Torch, IAN in sets. Although I don't know if we have enough IAN Mayan names yet name for a whole set. Heck, we have enought Haven and Manticoran names for 2-3 sets! [[Oops, me and my big mouth... end up spending more $$ to get the whole group!]

By ship class, now that's an interesting thought as well, though you'd have to substitute detailing vs. size/scaling.

[ *btw. the checker sets are cheaper... it's the only place where the captured SLD-SD's are allowed to play.. ]
