Sure. And tomorrow I could have Taylor Swift call me up and invite me on tour.
Basically there are a series of checkpoints you have to go through to do certain things in the RMN (or USN too). Department head tour, various schools you have to complete, xo tour, promotion or at least selection, before you can be considered for command of an independent command. |

Bolding mine. Rachel is (IIRC) trying to mold herself so that she becomes Honor 2.0 and she even has the Treecat to help her. Given that treecats are now range-capable, does Hipper count as one of the three? ~~~~~~
I can't write anywhere near as well as Weber But I try nonetheless, And even do my own artwork. (Now on Twitter)and mentioned by RFC! ACNH Dreams at DA-6594-0940-7995 |

Would be an interesting argument but I don't see them willing to establish the precedent. besides why settle for 2 and a cat if you can do 3 and a cat. |

Twenty years to Admiral in a peacetime star fleet? Well, no. Captain would be a stretch. |

Who says there will be twenty years of peace? There is ample opportunity for many little brush-fire wars and dirty tricks by the MAlign. The Grand Fleet may do some downsizing, but there will be plenty to do and room for promotions -- especially for spectacular examples of leadership and someone on the fast-track to be to GSN's first native-born female admiral. .
. . Answers! I got lots of answers! (Now if I could just find the right questions.) |

Probably because you don't, in fact, need any.
Rachel, unlike Abby, isn't in the line of succession. The Keys weren't ready to go as far as a female Protector. The may in another generation, but not yet.

[/quote] Abby is not in line either. But she is her father's daughter just as Rachel is. Does anyone think the leaders of GSN are so stupid they would allow Rachel to be on a ship without extra protection? The Masadans would love to get their hands on her. Breed her and get a son or two and challenge for the leadership of Grayson. |

Oh, but she (that is: Abigail) is. Only after her brothers, right - but in case any of them would pass without producing a male heir, she would be the next steadholder. |

I don't understand why they would need to provide Rachel with "extra protection" aboard a warship. The warship itself is secure against assassination or abduction attempts in a way that Landing City restaurants or Erewhonese casinos never could be. They are not idiots. So they'll leave it at the single armsman, like they did for Abigail. They will also double-vet every crew member and the ship captain will have an informal conversation with a senior admiral. Probably whoever is the day-to-day commander of the Protector's Own at that time. A military life is much safer for royals than civilian life is. |

At least until the shooting starts and it falls into the crapper... Don - When any group seeks political power in God's name, both religion and politics are instantly corrupted.
