Religion is politics. Politics is religion.

There is no such thing as a separation between the two. The only time this is partially true is when the majority all hold the same base tenents but disagree on the details of their religion.

There is lots of truth to this. Historically religion and politics are mutually reinforcing, especially if you go back in time prior to the Enlightenment.

Where things really get into trouble is when you have a diversity of perspective such as what happened prior to Grayson's civil war.

Personally, I think that faith serves society best by being prophetic, that is, by being a critic of the powers that be and seeking to preserve conscience by sharpening awareness of core values and pointing it out when those values are compromised for the sake of expediency.

I really get the willies when some politician says, "now God really wants...." That kind of talk is the province of the preacher and preachers shouldn't be seeking political power. The mutually reinforcing thing is the broad road to tyranny since the ruler comes to claim either to be God or have the sanction of God which comes to mean that anything he does has divine approval.

Sosss ... getting back on track here, or feebly trying to, now that Honor has had many close calls with her and her families safety, where is she going to suggest they all go to be safe regarding coming events?

One big bolt hole? Several separate bolt holes? Or just reasonable precautions that proved not to be reasonable enough? Years ago, families separated when traveling distances, especially across oceans. Split up?

Umm, what families? Everyone related to her outside her immediate family are all pretty much dead.

On the Harrington side. The Beowulfers are still alive and kicking...for now, at least.

The only member of her Beowulfan family that Honor is close to is Uncle Jacques. And given the work he is in, he has been an Alignment target even longer than Honor. And he is certainly not going to hide in some bolthole. :)

Your statement here is true, but not what my comment addressed. However close they may or may not be, the Benton Rameriz y Chous are still Honor's uncles, geandparents, etc.By common useage, that would qualify as immediate family.

At the same time I say that, I admit that the common useage can be a bit fuzzy.

Oh, but you don't understand -- GOD personally talks to him, it is the rest of the world that can't hear what he says.

Well, not all the rest of the world. But those others to whom GOD also speaks just somehow don't hear the same words.

SWM,

There is a post in the pearls, or maybe the FAQ, where the author said he just doesn't include much family stuff for Honor (esp. the Beowulfers) because it isn't germane to the story he is writing, not that they aren't close. Because it doesn't affect what she is doing, or going to do on the next few pages, He said something to the effect that he'd make more of it, if it affected the action in the story, otherwise he wasn't going to include it.

You're right--a valid point.

That was me, not relax who said that. And I understand all too well...That's what bothers me...
