Now all there’s to do is to stop MAN from setting off more of their nuclear toys, and to stop the seccys/slaves from slaughtering every freeborn Mesan on sight!

Well, since whoever they were going to have escape has done so (I doubt Mike is going to let anyone leave, and at least part of her force is headed to the wormhole, IMHO), the MAlignment really doesn't need to set off any more bombs (and from textev in CoG, I think the primary bombers have departed.

Of course, some attacks to cast the Manties as the 'bad guys' may be tried--but that would risk the Manties finding the culprits and opening a little more of the Onion.

Stopping the seccies and slaves may be a harder task, given the numbers and that Mike has very few Marines, but if the Visigoth wormhole is available to her (no reason it shouldn't be), then she's only 60 LY from the Beowulf terminus and home--and maybe we do get to see the Manticore Army, Arol....

Duckk, I would modestly disagree, we know General Drescher can reading the writing on the wall, but the Mesan Navy might try to put up a fight (no chance, but hey, they are citizens of that planet, their home, and giving it over to what they see as their mortal enemies without trying (even if it is hopeless) just doesn't seem right.

So while I expect the Mesan Navy will go bye-bye and the Government to surrender once Mike is in their orbitals, I don't think they've surrendered quite yet...(and yes, I am being nit-picky and pedeantic--what else is new? 8-) ;) )

IMHO as always. YMMV.

Wasn’t there a confrontation brewing around Beowulf and its wormhole?
Can't remember from my first readthrough?

Arol, there may be a bit of...unpleasantness...in Beowulf system, per A Rising Thunder, but it will be directed at the planet, not the wormhole--I don't know if Alice Truman is still there in person or not, but a bunch of Mantie SD(P)'s certainly are, so Mike won't have any problems getting couriers/ships though there.

As for Visgoth....hmmmm, what about Visgoth?

I don't know that the Visigoth side of that wormhole has been seized yet (we didn't see forces there "onscreen" yet)

So there may be a bit of a delay where everyone makes sure that they have control over both ends before using the wormhole; you really don't want to screw up and come through before the far side has been secured.

But aside from that coordination there shouldn't be any problem seizing that wormhole and using it to shortcut the lines of communication between Mesa and Manticore.

I may be misinterpreting things here, but it seems to be that there are several months between the end of ART and COG. If that is the case, the whatever was going to happen at Beowulf has either happened and been dealt with or is not going to happen at all. At any rate, there is no evidence in COG that anyone is still concerned about it.

Can we assume that Anton Zilwicki used the Mesa/Visigoth ~ Beowulf/Manticore route when he left to get help?

That would imply the Visigoth terminus was not locked down at that time.

Well, not locked down to extraordinarily expensive private ships, at least.

To Superdreadnoughts....might be a few questions asked.

Drescher didn't decide on her own hook to cease fighting with the insurrection and negotiate a withdrawal. That order must have come down from the people who got the word in the previous chapter that their system had been invaded. It's not like Henke knew anything about such local operations when she arrived. So it's very safe to assume that the Mesan navy also got orders to stand down and not commit suicide.

Is RFC playing with us and throwing out a Red Herring?

How do we know it is Mike & 10th fleet that has taken the Mesan orbitals?

OK Anton was shown the despatch Mike sent to Manticore wherein Mike set out her intention to go to Mesa, but nothing in CoG stated who had taken the orbitals around Mesa.

For all we know it could be the IAN

just a thought
