Hey all,
I've been an avid reader of sci-fi almost all of my life, but I'm pretty new to the Honorverse (just started getting in to it about a year ago). Been lurking off and on for a while now. I've been able to get most of my questions about in-universe things answered by reading stuff here on the forums or with other sources such as House of Steel and the SITS material. But something I've been trying to figure out for a while now is roughly the size of the Imperial Andermani Navy. Is the answer to this something that I have just overlooked here on the forum or elsewhere in the available materials. Or is this something that I will have to wait for another of the companions to be released before learning. Thanks. |

Hi TCFD0415, welcome to the bar and enjoy your favorite cold virtual beverage on us. 1) we know the exact size of the IAN on March 1st 1920 pd it's on the 1920 Fleet chart at the Honorverse Pearls: http://infodump.thefifthimperium.com/site/entry/Harrington/106/1 2)There is also lots of information on the IAN in SITS scenario book 2 (if you can get your hands on it). SITS is considered ....less than canonical, but was the basis of the first Companion, so use at your own prerogative. The ship types in SITS are mainly focused on those ships deployed in Silensia, but there is a lot of greater IAN detail there. ******
RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships." |

First of all thanks for the welcome Theemile, and the link that helps quite a bit.
I guess I should have been a bit more specific. I was hoping that someone might have more information on the IAN around the time of SVW, say 1905PD or so. My bad. Thanks |

the size of the IAN circa SVW, would be before their buildup when they anticipated having to battle against the RMN. So you can right off, slash 100% of the pod rollers and CLACs. Then you can probably slash their active SD fleet by between 30 and 50%, because that would have been part of their military build up for intimidating Manticore. Their DN's might have had less in reserve and more active, because the Andermani seem to like smaller wallers for the speed. Really, you can figure, whatever size and composition fleet that Manticore had, the IAN was probably built rather close to the same, just slightly smaller. I'd guess, that you take the RMN numbers for anything pre-outbreak, reduce by around 1/3 for battlecruisers and smaller, perhaps 50% for waller... that'd be the size of the IAN. After the official outbreak of hostilies, between the Committee of Public Safety and Manticore, the IAN would have fallen further and further behind in both fleet size, and emphasis on wallers, until they built up to make their claim on Silesia. |

SITS 2 is dated ~1900-1904 IIRC, however it is mainly focused on the IAN activities in Silesia. It does mention that their defensive forces are heavy on large LAC groups and there was a single, passing mention of Battleships (which seem to have been retired by 1920). ******

That book that discussed the fleet of manticore and greyson, there are two books coming and i think the IAN are going to get their own section.

David has an awful lot of background material, but unless it matters he keeps it in background.
So what you want has never really been discussed, as it didn't impact the stories. It might exist in detail, or not. |
