I have it from a fairly reliable source (RFC at Manticon, in Minneapolis, where I had the honor of serving as an aide/liason for Timothy Zahn, Eric Flint, RFC and his wife, along with others) that there are more books in mainstream series.

Fear not.

And no, I will not reveal any hints I may or may not have received.

As long as he's enjoying writing, there's no reason for him to stop anytime in the next 20 years. Jerry Pournelle is still writing - though the brain tumor then the recent stroke have slowed him a great deal - and he's 82.

Heck, my mom only published her first novel after she retired and she's working on the followup now - she's only a couple years younger than RFC.

With any luck writing will be for him what engineering was for my Grandfather who only stopped working at 83 - I'm convinced it's what kept him sharp and happy.
