Unless a lot changed between the previous failed Grayson invasion and HotQ, either the Graysons had a more than slight tech edge, or a large advantage in crew quality, or both. The Masadans in HotQ were utterly terrified of meeting the Graysons on anything resembling equal terms.

According to HoS, The GSN at the time was 3 CLs (1 "Glory" class, 2 "Austin Grayson" class) and 4 DDs (1 "Ararat" class, 3 "Zion" class)

But the hyper ship totals, and your point still stands.

I believe the GSN ships had a slight tech edge, but far from enough to offset the numerical inferiority of the Masadan home fleet and any fixed defenses they might have.

Right, i missed the Glory because it was down for maintenance during the battle and i´d forgotten that. Still though, it was easily replaced by the Madrigal DD and was the least capable of their CLs.
